Rosemary Greene was a lover of architecture, music, and nature. She was an avid traveler and a loving and devoted mother to her daughters. She loved to get outside and had a passion for outreach and helping others. Her smile lit up a room, and her friendliness brought light to everyone around her. She is survived by her mother Teresa, her daughters Allison and Emily, her partner Dale, and her grandson Bryan. She was a shining light in so many lives and will be greatly missed.

I worked with Rose for a short time when she was at the national Center for Healthy Housing. It was at the time that her daughter was planning her wedding, and I remember how proud and excited she was.
She had a great smile! I hope her family will find comfort in the memory of that smile.

Our paths first crossed when Rose worked at HI-AYH and I was on the local board. For years after that, we would see each other at Association of Fundraising Professionals events and parties of mutual friends. One day, she invited me to join her book group, in that typical, wonderful Rose way she had of bringing people together. She opened me up to a new group of fun, interesting people - as well as fascinating books. We became Facebook friends and I saw how she embraced life to the fullest. I saw her love of family and friends, her hiking and biking adventures, her commitment to public service. We talked just a few months ago, catching up on our recent job changes. Some people live life - Rose embraced life, grabbing it by the horns and getting as much out of it as possible. I am so sorry she wasn’t able to have more of that life, and my deepest condolences to Emily, Allison, Dale, Bryan, Teresa and all who loved her. She left an imprint on so many of us, and I’m grateful that I knew her.

I first met Rose when we both lived in Berwyn. Although our kids were different ages, we saw each other in the park or at neighborhood and civic association events. Later, after I started working for the City of College Park, we interacted through her membership on City advisory boards. I am shocked to learn of her loss, and send my deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

As programming opened across the state for about a year now, Rose traveled from Garrett County, seeing our 4-H camp to Fairs on the shore and in southern Maryland and upwards to the northern counties and Baltimore City to see all of Maryland 4-H. Rose met many new people with her warm smile and easy-going manner. We planned on doing lunchtime walks at the new trail down the street. She talked so fondly of her daughters, Allison and Emily, and her partner Dale, her Mom, and always looked forward to when she would see her grandson. I will miss her spirit of service to others and her kindness—my deepest condolences to all of her family and friends.

I knew Rose for many years -- getting to know her first as a colleague and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. We had many lunches and dinners over the years discussing her career and family. Her daughters were at the core or her existence and she loved working with the parks and recreation community. I appreciated her support of my nonprofit Green Spaces for DC. The photo is Rose at one of our events. Her passing is a terrible loss.

Known Rose since Alison was a newborn baby. We met in Los Angeles.
We have not had much contact over the last 10 years or so, life happened. This I will sadly regret. This is a stark reminder that we need to reach out and keep our friends close and re-spark friendships that may have fallen off a bit over the years. Every day is precious!
Rose was a wonderful woman, mother and friend.
I will miss her dearly.
May she rest easy.

Remembering Rose Greene Colby
Arriving in bright colored jackets and scarves
Excited about the book or not,
On time for Book Club, but mostly not.
So proud of her new grandson,
So excited for Emily at NYU,
So happy with her partner Dale.
We remember debating "Into the Wild"
Around the conference table at AYH
With Susan Hyatt, another soul gone too soon.
We remember Sunday luncheons
Around the DMV, especially
Our favorite, The Tabard Inn.
Ladies aging just slightly over the decades.
We remember Rose's kindness,
Care for others and
Passion for her work.
Changing the world.
Trying new things.
Leaving us too soon.
We love you Rose Greene Colby.

Rose was a friend and colleague of mine for many years. We worked on amazing projects together that had positive impacts on the lives of hundreds of youth in Prince George's County. Rose was kind and caring professional--the kind you want on your team. She will be greatly missed. I find comfort in knowing that her impact will be forever.

Rose and I became friends when we participated in Leadership Prince George's in 2008. From that point on, we connected personally and professionally. As a matter of fact, she was so instrumental in facilitating the partnership between Good Neighbor Day and the Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Parks & Recreation. We enjoyed going out to lunch, happy hours, and last year we went to the Nationals baseball game with our significant others. It was so much fun. Rose was committed to her community as a matter of fact she was ready to run for office. She would have been an amazing public servant. Her time on earth was short but I know she was a loving and caring human being. She indeed cared deeply and cherished her time with her mom, Dale, her daughters, and her new grandson. I am blessed to have met her and enjoyed beautiful moments. The last time I saw her was mid-February, and I wish I could have taken more time to spend with her. Moments like this teach us how fragile life is. Rose, you will be missed. Rest in Peace. My condolences to the family and loved ones.
Note: photo taken at the College Park Airport. She was a board member of the College Park Aviation Museum.

Rose was my dear friend for 37 years. Our shared love of music, travel, and the outdoors, nourished our friendship and provided joint travel ventures and rendezvous-vous of all sorts over the years. I am in utter disbelief that she is gone. My heart and my prayers go out to Mrs. Greene, Dale, Allison, and Emily.
No strings attached, dear friend. May you forever be paddling the Shenandoah ❤️

I didn't know Rose for long. I worked with her briefly on the Education Advisory Committee and at the book give away at the College Park Food Bank. She was so kind and welcoming and she had such a heart for people and a warming smile. I am sorry I didn't know her better, but I plan to take her examples of smiling a lot, enjoying nature and loving people, and making them part of my life. I am so sad and sorry for your family and you will be in my thoughts and prayer. She loved her family and talked with me about them with a twinkle in her eye.
