Richard A Raabe

Richard August Raabe passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2021, due to cancer. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 28, 1949, Rick was the youngest of three children of Arthur and Hilda Raabe. He spent most of his childhood on what he referred to as a “gentleman’s farm” in Brunswick, Ohio, where he enjoyed caring for cows, horses, sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks, along with a pet fox, crow and skunk.

A graduate of Wittenberg University, Rick married his college sweetheart, Janis Asad, after completing his first of four years at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He later established a podiatry practice in Canton, Ohio, where he was the first podiatrist granted surgical staff privileges at Aultman Hospital. He also served at Canton Mercy Medical Center and later, after retirement, at Lifecare Health & Dental Center, a federally funded comprehensive care clinic in Stark County. In addition, Rick volunteered as a dog trainer with Canines Helping Independent People (CHIP) in Canton.

A talented athlete, Rick played baseball, basketball and golf in high school. His love of sports motivated him to continue to do the same well into his 60s and early 70s and to help coach his sons’ Little League, YMCA basketball and Northwest Jackson Soccer teams. 

Rick was a proud and loving husband to Jan, father to Jason and Mark, father-in-law to Abbe and Emily, and grandfather to Will, Logan, Greyson, Ella and Miles – all of whom he loved and cherished. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, sister Linda Limpert, brother Donald and sister-in-law Mary Dee, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 30, at 2 pm at The Chapel in Green, 1800 Raber Road, Uniontown, Ohio.  All family and friends are welcomed.
