Dr. Tin. Really one of the great Christian men I’ve known outside my own dad. Loved him and respected him. Working with him in Honduras was a blessing. Taught me a lot during that time. Love the entire family. Shorty, Mrs Tin., I am so sorry to hear about Dr Tin’s passing. My heart is truly broken. I Loved Dr. Tin and so respected him.

Mimi, my sister in Christ. Know you are loved and I am praying for you during this time. Your Dad, oh your Dad, was really one of the few men I truly respected and Loved outside my own Dad. I know he prayed for you and me both. We have hope, and one day we will all be celebrating and rejoicing together with Christ. Love you Mimi!

What a beautiful tribute which brought tears to my eyes as I was reading your words about your father. My heart is heavy for you, Nita and all of your family. He was exactly as you said, such a caring and humble man who "walked the walk" and didn't just "talk the talk". My husband and I attended your parents celebration and renewal of their vows and walked away so touched by their obvious love for one another. Please express my deepest condolences to your precious momma. As sad as we are when we lose someone so very important to us, so thankful that the Lord gives us this assurance that we will see our loved ones again. I truly hope you are feeling the love and prayers from SO many who have been fortunate enough to cross paths with your precious family over the many years.

Pher Acosta published a tribute .

Ha! My nephew's cornea came off on his good eye and I thouht of doctor Tin and hid skills and wisdom. Now I find that he's gone to meet Jesus.
I had the honor of being his interpreter once when he came with BMDMI to Honduras, Central America. His equipment demeanor, half smile, patience and evident Jesus in him left El Guayabo village and sourroundigs full of miracles. The poorest and the hopeless would come and he'd remove their pterygiums or cataracts, insert lenses, treat their eye problems whatever they were, with the greatest kindness one can find within The Kigdom.
That was certainly one of the times when working as an interpreter out there in the heat didn't seem absolutely like a busy task, but it was actually having first seat to behold how people should be treated and loved and how to turn one's profession into a miracle performing job.
His family was beautiful.as well. Friendly, kind, down to earth...
It is an honor to add a word of tribute to such powerful witness and friend.
Nos vemos pronto doctor Tin

Kathryn Spriggs published a tribute .

I don't know exactly how I got so lucky 24 years ago, when I moved from Roswell, GA to Chattanooga and had my first appointment with Dr. Tin. But, from that day forward, he was consistently the same caring, gentle, sweet, soft spoken caretaker of me and my unusually strong astigmatism that I could ever have hoped to find.
I loved him as a very special person in my life, who I knew always had my best interest at heart, just as my own father did. For years I asked Dr. Tin if I could have cataract surgery to correct my eyesight, but he would say ... "Blink... blink... blink... Not yet...." And, I knew that I could trust him to know what was best for me. Then... February 2020, he said "It's time". And, I was thrilled! He gave me the gift of 20/20 sight that I had missed out on my whole life, having worn glasses since the age of 5.
He and Nita smiled huge smiles and hugged me and were both so happy for me... Then, I called for my 1 year followup appointment... and Nita's voice answered the office phone. I was confused... Then she tearfully told me the heartbreaking news that he was gone from our lives forever. I'm still astounded at the words. I could only hope that I had not, even in the slightest, ever taken his existence for granted... But, I knew in my heart that he was one of those rare angels that had been sent to care for me when I didn't even realize how much in need I was. His spirit will continue to watch over me and stay in my heart forever, as I'm sure he will in each of your hearts and lives. We all were truly blessed to have been cared for by this extraordinarily caring person. And, sweet Nita is the piece that makes his memory whole. We have loved you both, my dear Nita... we love you both still...

Bertha published a tribute .

Bertha. South, Carolina
Dr. Pe Than Tin became my eye doctor at Erlanger Hospital Clinic, when I a teenager in the 70s. He would call patients, while other doctors joked with each other. I followed him to his private practice. I had no insurance. But he gave me a complete eye exam. I only paid $17.00. He always took time to explain and answer questions. He treated me as if I was his only patient. That's the way my Heavenly Father treats me. Praise the good Lord Jesus. Ms Nita Tin, thank you for your kindness. God bless you and keep you in his care. He will always be there.
With Love.

Daniel Watts published a tribute .

I've got SO many beautiful memories spending time with the Tin's in their lake house and then up in the mountains in Gatlinburg.

Patterson welcomed our whole family in as if we were his own family: giving us rooms to stay in, fridges full of food, activities to do, boats & jetskis to fly around on (endlessly refuelling with a smile on his face) and always catering to our every need and whim.

I remember him taking us out fishing on the boat one night with my two brothers. He bought a bunch of tackle, filled up the bait with "night crawlers" - pretty sure they're just worms to us Brits?! - and we set off, returning a couple of hours later with a few catfish which were deep fried the next day - delicious. A proper American experience I won't forget.

From the short time I knew him, he was literally always smiling, joking, laughing. On reflection it's incredible how well he seemed to manage work-life balance, prioritising both his patients & family. Running my own small business, it's something I'm in awe of, respect deeply and can take inspiration from.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your Dad, Husband, Grandad was the best and he's very missed.

Doliner Family - La published a tribute .

Dear Aunty Nita,

We wanted to reach out to you as a family, to let you know how broken up we are, and somehow sending flowers or a Facebook post felt insufficient. Losing Uncle Patterson has been so sad, so shocking. He was such a great man, and such a great uncle.

Uncle Patterson and you have been there throughout my life with love and kindness. I will never forget how supportive you both were when my mother died, how Uncle Patterson choked up at her memorial, confessing how she was, in many ways, a mother to him growing up.

And we will always be grateful for how generous he was, opening his heart and your homes to us. The trips we had with you both and Mi-lay are such happy memories. Sitting together in the sand in Mexico, surrounded by torches, sharing a delicious meal in the moonlight. How lucky were are to have had these experiences with him and these memories.

I mentioned this to Mi-lay, but for all of us here in Los Angeles, he was the very best example of what a Christian life could offer, of what a Christian man could be. He carried himself with such confidence and quiet power, the kind of calm strength that I imagine comes from deeply known truths and powerful convictions. We never felt preached to, we always felt accepted, we always felt nothing but warmth and generosity and good cheer from him.

One of the last conversations I had with him was on speakerphone, while you and he and Mi-lay were all driving somewhere together. I don’t know how the subject came up, but we were talking about how all men have flaws and imperfections, how we men all have things we need to work on to improve ourselves. He laughingly challenged me to tell him what his flaw was, what his imperfection could be? I told him that his great flaw was that he made other men feel inadequate because he was so perfect, and that this quality made the men around him feel bad about themselves. He enjoyed that one. And though I was joking, I believe it’s true. He was as good as they come.

We are here for you and hope to see you soon. We miss you, and we will always miss Uncle Patterson.

All our love,
Johnny, Jennie, Anabelle, and Lila

Oh Johnny, your tribute to Uncle Patterson brought such healing to my broken heart. You were very, very special to him and he loved and treasured you very much. Your mother meant all the world to him and he to her and there was such a special bond between us. Uncle Patterson is everything you say Johnny and in all the 60 years I have known him and loved him with all my heart he has been constant and a source of love and hope to all the lives he touched. My heart is broken but I know Uncle Patterson is waiting for me to join him. Knowing him and being loved so much by him has been the greatest privilege and the true treasure of my life. Uncle Patterson was the only one who showed me the greatest treasure - that of being known and loved by His Savior and knowing and loving Him in return. We have so many special memories of the wonderful and happy times with him. He loved with all his heart and had more than enough to spill over to all his lives touched. Uncle Patterson lived every moment with joy and peace. As someone wrote in their tribute of him, “he showed us how to live and how to go home”. Thank you Johnny for sharing what he meant to you. You were very special to him and he loved you and Jenny and Anabelle and Lila so much , just as I do. I love you

Mimi, i'm posting here so you'll have a record although I've also sent Nita my love and prayers. Your tribute is beautiful and heartfelt and your words are true about your dad. Kind, humble, loving, generous and giving, and so faithful and adoring with your mom. They seemed as happy at their renewal of their vows as they must have been at their wedding. Nita has said that it was his Christianity that shone the light in her life and led her to the Lord. Look at the ripple effect of their commitment to God on the lives of others! They were perfect mentors for those who want to follow God and honor him with a Godly marriage. They have also been examples of hard work and perseverance while, at the same time, showing hospitality and warmth. Dr. Tin's passing is a loss most certainly for you and your family but it is also a loss for their many friends, co-workers and the community at large. I wish for you
peace and comfort in knowing that he is with God and that he left an
admirable and unblemished legacy while here. Much love, Susan

My precious Susan, as I read your words and as they brought back memories of our life together it brought healing to my broken heart. We were two peas in a pod, two soulmates joined together by an infinitely loving God, who longed only to be together, and hurt when we were apart even for a few hours, and the joy we felt when we could again hold hands and be still together. He is safe in the arms of Jesus, but his legacy will go on and our story- God’s Story is not finished yet. I started writing His Story nearly 20 years ago “Love That Could Not Let Me Go” it is now almost in its finishing stages but it will be published as “Heartbeat Of A Survivor”. Please pray that I will be able to finish my final draft and that it will be published. DR. Tin read through it 2 weeks before he went home and prayed fervently that it would reach many people. I treasure you sweet Susan. You are so very loved and so very prayed for. Nita Tin Psalm 91

Sweet Mimi and Byron, Thank you for sharing the memories of the fun times we had. The gentle love that we embraced, the meals that we shared , and the laughter as we traveled back to our younger days. I still have picture of you two 75 years plus boys dancing on the edge of our lap pool in Cabo swaying to the fast beat of some island music. That is a precious memory. hank you for being with us on the 50th renewal of our wedding vows. Patterson loved you both so much and prayed for you daily. You are both so loved and so prayed for . Brooke Tin published a tribute .

If I'm being entirely honest, an online memorial doesn't do you justice at all, Pho Pho, but I have so much I want to say and you're not here to say it to, so this tribute thing will have to work for now.

Three weeks ago, Jesus took you home. When I heard the news, I couldn't even cry because I'd already been crying for days. All the same, I was shocked. The Pho Pho I remembered smiled so wide it was infectious. At 79, you trekked around the garden gathering sticks so we could build a bonfire, and it was you who broke the bigger ones when we were too tired to do it. Your words were wisdom: even the jokes that came out as a result of a thin (but still extant) language barrier. I remember a happy man, smiling over a pot of chicken curry, or at a roaring fire after we burned all the old papers. The lazy grin as we performed the songs everyone else demanded while you sat back, content just to be surrounded by loved ones. I remember the times we went walking, you outpacing us by far or contentedly hand in hand with Grandma. You were healthy, happy, and most importantly, loved as you were.

I remember the past, but as I think back to that Monday, those are the memories I remembered when I heard you went Home. I don't see you in a hospital bed because it wasn't you. Not to me.

Despite being the gentle man of wisdom you were, your presence is so loud it fills every place you lived in. Your house is warm despite it missing one. Macy even went looking for you upstairs the day you left. We sit around a table of six now (or eight if you count Macy and Luna), at my house, and maybe it's shock speaking but I feel like you're just in the other room, laughing at our distant conversation.

I know you're still here. Your spirit absolutely is. We must sound insane thinking it, but the increased number of hummingbirds hanging around can't be by chance. We've come to the (again, likely insane) conclusion it's you, stopping by, checking in on us, and then flitting away, satisfied we're alright.

The verse you wrote me on Thanksgiving two years ago, Joshua 1:9, remains tacked to my wall. I'll never take it down because when I see it, I read it over and over until I remember it again. "Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid nor dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Perhaps you knew it then, or maybe it was something between you and God, but that was exactly what I needed to hear these past few weeks.

Words will never do justice what I thought of you while on earth and they can never piece together the joy I experienced around you into a picture for someone else to see. You were entirely your own person: unique, Godly, and the embodiment of love. People say you were an angel on earth. You were, and now you are in heaven. I can't imagine your joy at seeing God welcome you with open arms and hearing those words: "You have done well, my good and faithful servant." Because you did. You served Him every day of your life.

As far as I'm concerned, no one will ever come close to being the man of God you were. I never thought you would leave, but God has His reasons. I only pray that your story gets out and that people see what a true Christian looked like.

I'll miss you so much, Pho Pho. I can't wait to see you again.
Love, Brookie-Lay

Precious Brookie -Lay, and this is how Pho Pho called your name.with so much love for you and for Sydney. You two were his most precious treasures. Grand babies he carried next to his heart. Pho Pho’s thoughts of you both and his prayers were laced in love as he prayed for God’s hedge of protection to surround you. He prayed that you would grow up emotionally, mentally, physically an spiritually. Pho Pho prayed that God would lead you to the right college, He prayed for the ones who you and Sydney would marry. You were in his daily prayers as early each morning we held hands and prayed.
Each time the clock in our kitchen reached the hour and he heard your voices say “Grandma and Pho Pho we love you” he would reply lovingly, I love you too my babies. I do that now for Pho Pho.
Pho Pho looked forward to the weekends you spent with us, the long summer holidays, Christmas and in between. He enjoyed being outdoors with you, spending time together around our dining table., cooking in the kitchen, and listening to your concerts. You and Sydney were Pho Pho’s pride and joy.
Like you I feel the Pho Pho I know is always with me, always a part of our family, his warmth, his joy, his positive personality permeates every room. What a wonderful tribute to your Pho Pho., Brookie.?Reading it brought tears to my eyes, and though they spilled over, they brought such healing to my broken ,hurting heart. We will always be a part of his beautiful legacy.. Pho Pho loved you so much, just As I do. Our Brookie-Lay.

Not many of us will leave their mark on this earth but Patterson will surely be one. Many of us that have known him have a deep respect for this man. He has shown us what
humility, kindness, compassion and love is.This gentle man
who was softly spoken with a smile so pure has given his life to his patients over many years and to his adored family. His faith and belief in Christ has never wavered even through troubled times. His calming nature put everyone at ease. He was the perfect partner and soulmate of 60 years to my beautiful cousin. They were inseparable. They were as one and experienced love like no other. Patterson’s bond with his children Mimi and Zaw and extended family Sophia, Brooke and Sydney was unconditional love. Memorable family Christmas reunions forever etched in my heart. Patterson loved his food especially the Burmese dishes and his sister in laws ensured that he was well fed. Even though we lived in different continents Patterson was just a phone call away and he always had time to chat and offer advice. He never quite became an Octogenarian and celebrate this milestone with his family however, he will be having his annual week long celebrations with Christ.
Love you Patterson.

He said with the sweetest smile, “It’s ok! You’ll get it next time!” He had endless patience and goodness exuded from him. I love how he loved his beautiful bride. Dr Tin

Nita, Mimi, Zaw & Family - The Stubblefield’s love you all and we miss Dr. Tin soo much! Our hearts ache as we mourn being separated from him for now. For being such a quiet, soft spoken man his presence was loud! I was always aware of Dr. Tin when he was around. He was full of humility, kindness, generosity, grace, peace, and love. It was obvious that he walked with Jesus. I have often been convicted and challenged by his faithful life and testimony.

I so enjoyed those summer days when you and Dr. Tin would welcome my family and share the gift of your company and home on the lake. We long to go back and relive them once more. Dr. Tin’s smile was as bright as the sun. I’ll never forget the day that we took the kids for a ride on the new tube that Dr. Tin had bought with my kids in mind. Somewhere on Savannah Bay we turned around to see you and Dr. Tin racing up to meet us on the Yamaha. You said it was the first time you’d been on the Jetski in a long time. Both of your smiles were huge and you were laughing as you held on to him tight. Your love for one another and joy together was such a gift to see and share. We played until it began to get dark.

I’ll never forget watching Dr. Tin pulling up to the dock to drop you off before parking the Jetski. Dr. Tin was looking forward and holding on to the dock to keep the Jetski steady while you climbed onto the dock. But your dress got tangled and kept you from stepping off the jetski (Yes, you were riding the jetski in a dress!). Elizabeth and I watched from a distance as slowly you became a lone, well dressed, bridge between the drifting rear of the jetski and the dock. Dr. Tin had no idea what was happening until it was too late to help. He turned to see you slip into the lake between the jetski and the dock. You were both laughing so hard! And so were we! We have so many beautiful, special memories with you all!

Dr. Tin was a faithful friend and a godly man, always choosing to follow the Lord no matter what. He loved others in a winsome way and others loved him in return. His faithfulness stemmed from the One Who is Faithful, who captured his heart many years ago, and from a desire to love and serve Him and point everyone he met to Jesus.

Dr. Tin’s life was, in fact, an arrow pointing to Heaven. Our lives will never be the same without him. We are, with you, looking to and beholding Jesus until He makes all things new.

We love you,
David and Elizabeth
Caris, Caleb, Elliana, and Josiah

My fondest memories of Dr. Tin include small group fish fry's and Christmas parties at their house. What a gracious host, but listening to him praying in his native tongue (with Nita translating) will forever be etched in my heart and memories. Dr. Tin wasn’t a big talker, so when he did speak you knew it was because he had something important to say and I needed to be listening and paying attention. I will forever remember his smile, gentle spirit, love for the Lord and kindness. He truly was a humble giant in his faith. How he loved, supported, encouraged and treated Nita was a beautiful picture of Christ’s love for the church. (I also remember Bro. Eric Stitts talking about his unexpected ride on the back of a motor bike in another country on his way to share the gospel! But that is really someone else’s story to tell)

Nita, I have to say that you and Dr Tin were always the sweetest, most kind beautiful people I have ever had the priviledge to know. From the very first time I met the two of you, you were always as one! Dr Tin was such a Godly man and always looking to be a blessing to someone else, which he was. Each time I saw him, he would always ask about singing because he knew in his heart how much it meant to me, so he allowed me to talk about it . He was such a selfless man. Since my accident when I got severely burned 38% third degree burns, I always had trouble with my eyes because it blew my eyelids off. As the years went on, they started giving me a lot of trouble. I decided then to go see Dr. Tin and see if he could help me. He was so kind and so thorough in his search for a way to make my vision better without so much redness and blurring in my eyes and he kept on until he found the right formula to keep me going. He was always so pleasant. When I would go downtown and you and Dr Tin would both be in the room, you both were so connected that you were like you read each others mind. Heaven has surely gained a man that walked in the way that Christ taught us to. I thank God for the opportunity and honor to have known Dr. Tin and I could not finish there. Nita, the kindness was well displayed in you as well. The two of you were more kind to me than I ever deserved. I thank God that we know exactly where he is and the you and all of us will meet again one day . Much Love to you !!

What a great man Heaven has gained. Dr Tin always, always had a big smile on his face and always made time for you. Mrs. Nita, you and your family are so so precious to me and I’ve been praying for you for a long time and will continue to do so. What a legacy and a testimony Dr Tin had left for those of us still doing His work. Much love and big hugs!

I will forever be thankful for his friendship and encouragement. He always has a spirit of kindness about him and never hesitates to help. After reading Mimi’s tribute, I was reminded of one of the mission teams that we served on together with Nita and several others. The team was trekking down to the sea one afternoon when we came across a viper on the path, his solution was to step on it’s head. From that moment forward, he had won over my trust and respect. He constantly uses his gifts and abilities in so many ways to serve the Lord and those around him. There is no doubt in my mind that he has been welcomed into Heaven with a “Well done My good and faithful servant.” Much love to you all and praying for an abundance of His comfort and peace.

I worked with Dr. Tin in the OR for almost 9 years, and I can say without any doubt he was one of the kindest, most compassionate, intelligent surgeons I ever had the pleasure of assisting. He always treated me with the utmost respect and made all of his staff and every patient feel important and appreciated. We always joked that the day he left this earth he would be sent directly up to heaven, but that joke is something we all truly meant. I love Dr. Tin, and he will always be one of the best parts of the memories I have of my surgical career.

He often chatted with me about his family, he loved them all so dearly, and I hope they all know how much we all loved him.

Dear Mrs. Tin and family,
Dr. Tin was such a fine and caring physician. He will be greatly missed by all of his patients! His passing is such a loss. He was my eye doctor since 1983, and I had complete confidence in him. It will be so sad never to see him again, but I know he is in a better place. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I met Mimi over 10 years ago. We bonded as neighbors and she instantly became my big sis. I would listen to stories about Mimi's life as a young child in Burma, as a student in Tennessee, and as a professional in Atlanta... her father was always part of her stories and he always sounded like an amazing man. Always supportive, always encouraging, and always there. He was a family man who would be part of every moment big or small.

When I met Mimi's parents I had no idea they would embrace me and love me and treat me like family. I had no idea that this quiet man would greet me every time with a smile and a hug, for me and for my children. I felt so fortunate to be on the receiving end of his love, a kind of love that is so genuine and comes without payment. This kind of love is meant for everyone, not just those who he shared life with.

Dr. Tin is a guiding light that made this world brighter. Some might think that the world will be a little darker without him but it wont. He has shed so much love and light on friends, family, patients, and strangers... if we all just give a tiny bit of his light back to the world it will be brighter than before.

My favorite photo of Dr. Tin is this one. I know its not mine, but its the first photo I noticed in Mimi's loft. It's the photo I quietly looked for every time I went for a visit. It's the photo that shows his amazing smile and love for his wife, Auntie Nita. It's the photo that Mimi is so proud to display.

Dear Mrs. Tin and family,

Words cannot express the love I have for you all and I have been praying for God to hold you close while you travel this road ahead of you. Dr. Tin was the kindest man I have ever been blessed to know and he will live on in all whose lives he has touched. I have no doubt he is in God's great glory now as he was the perfect example of what a Christian man ought to be. Our God promises us that death is not permanent and one day those who believe will all be together again. I hold on to this promise in times like this. May God keep you all close and give you strength when you find you have none, give you peace when your peace falters, and let you feel the love that you shared with Dr. Tin on the days when his presence is painfully absent. I love you all!

We are so deeply saddened and truly heartbroken to fully comprehend and accept that our dear friend Patterson has gone to heaven. We have been fortunately blessed with over 50 years of true friendship with Patterson and his loving family. We will forever cherish the many wonderful memories that we created and shared together throughout his life.

Patterson epitomized the renaissance man and was talented in everything he set his mind and heart out to do. His family always came first and he devoted his life to provide for them and served gracefully as their nucleus. Patterson always made great efforts to plan and bring his circle of friends and loved ones together. He also embodied generosity, attentiveness, kindness and decency. The smile on his face always reflected the kindness in his heart and his calm and caring demeanor was infectious and comforting.

Patterson's abundant love for the God Almighty was very clear. He lived every moment of his life serving all who crossed his path as he saw Jesus Christ in all humans. Patterson had indeed lived a full and exemplary life following Christ's teachings. He positively touched thousands of lives on his life journey here on Earth.

Patterson, you will be greatly missed. The precious memories and deep love we have for you will live on forever until we join you someday in our eternal home. Rest in peace in the presence of the Almighty God, and please continue to watch over your family and all of us.

With Deepest Love and Gratitude,
Celina and Gilbert

Many years ago, A nice man kept hanging around the eye surgery room @ Erlanger OR, where I was the RN in charge. He told me that he wanted to get in the ophthalmology residency program. He was so nice & sincere that I wanted to help. I told him tho keep hanging around & that I would speak to Dr. Arnold about him. (Dr. Arnold was the one who had final say about who was accepted in the residency program. So Dr.Tin kept hanging around & I encouraged Dr. Arnold to consider him. When I told Him that Tin already had some experience & was Baptist, that was it. I enjoyed working with all of my residents, but Tin was just a humble man & a good surgeon. When I met Nita & Zaw & Mimi, I fell in love with the whole family. My husband & boys also. Over the years we lost some contact, but remained distant friends. He did many procedures for us as patients. God’s light was shining thru Tin , and his amazing talent was evident in the good results obtained thru his surgeries. Rest In Peace with your Lord, sweet friend. The Kincer family. Laura, Kevin, Keith, Chip. Look up Jack & y’all get the PingPong game going again.

It is with great sadness that we learned of Dr. Tin passing. We can not find the words to express our love for this brilliant man. My wife and I have been patients and friends of Pe for 42 years. He has taken great care of generations of our family, from parents to grandchildren. From emergency surgery to save my wife's eyesight to rendering a diagnosis of an accidental eye injury via a cell phone picture and meeting me at his FO office at night to repair the damage. This wonderful man served God every day in every way. He and I were a year apart in age and on every visit we would joke about retirement .Each of us giving the same answer, never retire ,work every day of our lives until God called us home us home. Pe was truly the finest gentleman I have known. REST IN PEACE OLD FRIEND- YOUR WORK IS DONE ON THIS EARTH---
