March 11th, 1958 - August 3rd, 2020

Don't cry for me. I will be okay. Heaven is my home now, and this is where I'll stay. Don't cry for me. I'm where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong. Don't cry for me. It was just my time, but I will see you someday on the other side. Don't cry for me. I am not alone. The angels are with me to welcome me home. Don't cry for me, for I have no fear. All my pain is gone, and Jesus took my tears. Don't cry for me. This is not the end. I'll be waiting here for you when we meet again. www.irishmemorycards.com

Biography

GONE TOO SOON!

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF AN ICON.

Otunba (Dr) Oladapo Osun-Williams PhD, FRSA "Double Chief" Dapo hailed from Lagos State, Nigeria. He was born on 11 March 1960. A man who wore many hats. A jack of all trades, but master of very many.

A qualified Architect, Chartered Surveyor, Building Construction expert, and a Commercially-focused Real Estate Facilities Management strategist with over 35 years’ experience in these industries. Chief Williams was a man of many parts with vast experience in various industry sectors, namely; Health Services, Automotive, Construction, Education, Employment, Legal Advice, and Guidance Services. Dapo and family are also stakeholders in the Oil & Gas Sector, as Petroleum Products Downstream Retailers.

Dr Williams' passion for the environment cannot be over-emphasised, as he employed his professional expertise to contribute his own quota to managing the effects of climate change and renewable energy.

One of the reasons Dr 'Dapo Williams is being eulogised all over the world is not far-fetched. His pedigree in the area of education and professional experience included his attendance at numerous first-class and celebrated academic institutions all over the world including the Harvard Business School USA, Oxford University UK, University of Cambridge UK, and before then, the renowned Yaba College of Technology in its heydays for his National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Dapo was a prominent member of many international bodies; - both professional and social. They include Fellow, Royal Society of Arts (FRSA), Member, Association of Engineering Doctorates AEngD, Member, Institute of Directors (UK) (MIoD), and Member, Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

Dr Williams was recipient of numerous awards, honours, and recognitions from far and near. For example, he was Officially Recognised by Her Majesty, The Queen of England for Services to Education (1999), Recipient ‘BEFTA Award for Philanthropy’ in community projects, Africans In Diaspora UK (2019), Awarded ‘Best Research Student’ at the International Postgraduate Research Conference, UK (2015), and Special Recognition Award for support and contribution towards the Charities in Africa (Focus on Disability, 2018)

Chief Dr. Dapo Williams had been torn between the United Kingdom and Nigeria since leaving Nigeria in 1989, while working as an oil rig engineer with Chevron Nigeria Plc, formerly Gulf Oil Nigeria where both his academic and professional excellence were being sought.

His benevolence and activities within various communities had earned him many honours from far and wide including the Otunba Fiwagboye of Arigiland, and the Bashorun of Yaba Lagos. Otunba Dapo Williams was a role model and mentor to black youths in the African/Caribbean communities. He enjoyed his Formula 1 car racing, Golf, and watching his beloved Arsenal Football Team.

'Dapo is survived by Yeye Tina Williams; The Yeye Fiwagboye of Arigidi Akoko, and blessed with Children. Chief 'Dapo Williams left this world for the life beyond on Monday 3 August 2020, aged 60.

Good night Otunba (Dr) Oladapo Oshun-Williams. The Fiwagboye of Arigidi Akoko, and Bashorun of Yaba Lagos. May his gentle soul be allocated a place in the bosom of the Lord.

RIP Dapo
I remember meeting you for the first through my uncle Capt Bob Hayes during Warri Lady's Vanguard 25th Anniversary in 2011, I was the MC and you were the fund raiser.
You did exceedingly well that everybody at the event dug deep into their pockets and parted with their last penny on them all for good deeds towards the Itsekiris.

OTUNBA DR OLADAPO OSHUN-WILLIAMS; A CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS!

Finally, the journey to laying you, my dear friend, to rest begins.

The last three weeks since your passing has been a time for reflection, a sober one indeed. A time to reflect on what a great person you were to all who met you...a canopy of love, a figure of golden benevolence, and though a traditional man, never allowed that to dominate the relationship with anyone.

There are so many numerous admirable qualities about you that stood out in your imperfection as a human being. I can only mention just a few. You were affectionate, compassionate, a beacon of light, your radiant smile was ever present on your face, your kindness and great wisdom, how you make every moment special, and selflessly shared what you had with others, your fatherly devotion, your hard work through the years, never giving up on a goal once it is set, always available and interested in the progress of everyone.

You were a humble and peaceful man, always generous, a strong man and wonderful inspiration, you taught a lot of life lessons, you were a rare gem, cherished the education of your family and showed interest in their wellbeing. A Patriarch, leader, exemplar, confidant, teacher, hero and friend, you made everyone feel special; you were never one to cause stress to anybody, disrespect or treat anyone with indignity. You were open and generous to anyone that needed help.

You accepted and welcomed everyone with open arms. You celebrated everyone even at your own detriment.

So, as we embark on this journey to a final farewell I celebrate your life, I pray for God’s strength for your family and loved ones, I pray for peace and unity and oneness to carry on your legacy of love, peace, unity and caring for others.
Your night has come and the lights are out for you, on this side of eternity. I pray the angels to illuminate your path into glory and may all the souls departed before you receive you with much rejoicing. Goodnight my beloved friend, Oladapo Oshun-Williams.

Otunba Dr Dapo Williams sponsored my ministry's Triple Praises and was angry each time one passed by without his knowledge. God owes him a place in Paradise because God himself says if you help the poor then God owes you debts.
Otunba touched lives every where he went. No dull moments or dryness. The tragedy of life is here today, gone tomorrow. In the words of Apostle Paul he lived a good life, ran a good race and kept the faith therfore a crown of glory aweits him. The painful mystery of life is indeed that those we live for and help may not reciprocate, otherwise a man who lived for everyone had none to attend to him when it mattered most. Good night Otunba Williams.

The wind blew and took you away our dearest Otunba Dr Dapo Williams. Words fail me. Little did I know that your WhatsApp message to me on that very Monday morning was a sign of you saying goodbye.

You were a beautuftul soul who touched my heart with your sincere humility and kind hearted loving spirit.

You were shocked when you found out many years ago that I was severely partially sighted/blind, and you promised wholeheartedly that you will always be there if I ever needed any help or assistance as you have been called to this world to help and support people and charitable causes. You kept your words to the end and I am truly grateful.

You told me never to allow my disability to define who I am nor determine my happiness in life. You were an exceptional gentleman, a unique being who created time for everyone but yourself.

As much as I admired your work ethic and pride of success through hard work, one thing I wish you did more was to take regular breaks /holidays from your busy schedules.

Your kind nature/love towards everyone who came in contact with you was second to none.

You were so selfless even when it came to our charity events, your presence was undeniably recognised.
Your professionalism is commendable which has earned you accolades all over as well as my full respect.

You had a fantastic sense of humour and a unique smile. Your funny jokes always made us crack our ribs, never a dull moment, even with your WhatsApp jokes.

Caretaker Committee
PDP UK Chapter SW
Caucus

Sunday, 9th August, 2020

To:
The family of late
Dr. Dapo Williams
(Dr. DW)
UK.

ADIEU Dr. Dapo Williams (Dr. DW)

Letter of Condolence

It is with great shock we learnt today about the sudden demise of Dr. Dapo Williams (Dr. DW as he preferred to be referred to as), an illustrous and industrious philantropist Nigerian who lived his entire life to move Nigeria forward through various postive and impacting projects and activities without fear or favour nor for his personal aggrandisements.

Late Dr. DW devoted a huge amount of his resources(time, energy, finance, professional and academic expertise, etc) to "Project Nigeria" at national, state and local community levels both in the Diaspora and Nigeria.

Like any mortal being, he wasn't infallible but humanly lived above board and was indeed an extraordinaire and a highly reverred community leader across board with sterling human relations attributes devoid of any iota of bigotry or ethnic bias and/or rancour whatsoever in the course of the discharge of his duties and responsibilities selflessly as an articulate and well respected community leader both in the Diaspora and Nigeria.

Meritocracy, humility, competence philantropism, impeccable diplomacy and humanitarianism were some of the hallmarks that clearly defined his great "omoluabi" (gentleman) nature at all times. Little wonder he was installed as Otunba Fiwagboye of Ondo land. He was that much a simple man that he hardly brandish his traditional title appellation of "Otunba".

Dr. DW was a very successful businessman and a real estate guru who was recorgnized by Queen Elizabeth II for his lofty and selfless philantropic gestures when he single handedly helped raise a colossal sum of money for the rebuilding of key infrastructures in a school in New Cross, London, popularly attended by ethnic minority students.

He was multi-lingua(he spoke German fluently); he was a multiple masters degrees holder and obtained various academic qualifications from a number of prestigious academic institutions such as Cambridge University and Harvard Business School and taught part timely at University of Kent. He undoubtedly was an erudite scholar and academician of rare qualities.

He was a well deserving and devoted family man.

The Caretaker Committee of PDP UK Chapter SW Caucus hereby commiserates with the family of late Dr. Dapo Williams on the tragic event of his demise. May God continue to grant his family, the international community and the Nigerian state the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

We are therefore very much convinced he had definitely left on us ALL, an indellible mark of patriotic stewardship and positivity as a progressive citizen of the world through his numerous, fantastic and exemplary global achievements that emblezoned his lifetime.

Dr. DW you will be sorely missed; continue to rest in the bossom of your creator.

God bless.

Kind regards,
Engr. Obafemi Somorin

What a great race our Dapo ran

By Ayo Akinfe

What a great race our Dapo ran
Giving as much help as he can
Always lending a helping hand
Never shy to run an errand

A cheerful giver the man was
Forever backing every cause
He was there as a listening ear
For friends both far away and near

Always happy to show his face
Backing events in every case
Supporting you from his pocket
Lifting your load like a bonnet

He always had that lovely smile
For your cause he would run a mile
Always there with his little bag
His afro gave him extra swag

Dapo never bore any grudge
From being nice he'd never fudge
No matter how you disagreed
For unity he'd always plead

Goodbye our lovely otunba
You'll always be on our radar
Beings like you are very rare
As you sleep on for you we care

The photo is from the last time I was with Otunba Dr Dapo Williams. It was an event that he organised along with two other community leaders.

Didn’t know him as intimately as others do but the little time I knew him, he made an impact. A philanthropist, humble to the core, supporting causes, attending and participating. No airs or graces just a man of the people. It brought him worthy accolades as he was well appreciated and brought him to the highest offices to be recognised.

Adieu Otunba, Double Chief, Dr. Dapo Odin-Williams. Your passing just a few days after that event is shocking and brings to reality that son of man has but a short time to live; no matter how long we are on earth, it’s still too short.

May God comfort your family, friends and loved ones.

*APC UK SAYS ITS DECEASED MEMBER DAPO WILLIAMS WAS A POLITICAL CHAMPION*

By Emmanuel Mogbede

Abuja, Aug.9, 2020 (NAN)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) United Kingdom chapter has described its late member, Dr Dapo Williams as a champion who fought many political wars to bring Nigerians in the Diaspora into repute.

Mr Ade Omole, leader of the chapter said this in a statement issued by Mr Jacob Ogunseye, its Publicity Secretary on Sunday in Abuja.

Omole also said that the deceased who died at 61, fought to ensure the unity of Nigerians in Diaspora and the development of the APC in the UK.

"On behalf of APC UK chapter and with a heavy heart, I would like to announce the passing of Otunba Dapo Williams,

"He was one of the senior members of APC UK chapter and a leader within the Nigerian UK Diaspora community.

"Otunba Williams was an active member of the party, former leader of the Buhari Support Organisation, and Chairman Emeritus of Nigeria Think Tank Group (NTTG)," Omole said.

He said Williams contributed immensely to the success of various developmental initiatives geared towards bringing Nigerians in the Diaspora into repute.

Omole urged members of the party to condole with the family of the deceased while awaiting the burial arrangements, adding that he would be forever remembered.

He also prayed God to give his family and friends the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss and grant his soul eternal rest.

According to the statement, the deceased was also a Board of Trustee (BOT) member of NTTG, United Kingdom

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Williams who died in London, was a graduate of University of Salford, University of Cambridge and Harvard Business School.

Reminiscent of my fun memory with 01 Otunba Dr Dapo Williams on the faithful day of my sister’s party in London. When we met for the first time it feels like we’ve known each other for 40yrs, Thanks to Ile Bintin Social Club our path crossed, he came to represent the club along with other club members. I remembered vividly he came on time, long before the party starts which gives us opportunity to gel and talk about everything under the sky. We shared heartfelt laughter and compare notes on beautiful ladies at the party. I couldn’t believe that he party just as hard as he studies. . Ironically. I realized immediately we’ve got a lot in common, his laughter and voice is just as deep as mine and we both love to laugh. He appreciate my wife by spraying her dollars along with other members. When my wife got on her kneels to say thank you, he quickly pulled her up. We spoke again at the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, I called him to check his health to make sure all is well. He is good man. He is permanent fixture at big social outings in London. He always make sure people close to him are comfortable with drinks and food. He will be truly missed. Till we meet again in heaven Adieu comrade. Sleep tight.

On behalf of the Executive Committee and members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the Williams' family following the death of our beloved Comrade DW.

In this moment of great sorrow, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends and indeed the entire Nigerians in the UK who, for many years, benefitted from his benevolent spirit, patriotism, and commitment to service.

NIDO will remember Comrade DW as a rare gem gifted with the touch of making one feel a part of a Bigger Community. He was not known for saying no when called to serve. Words cannot convey the enormity of the void in NIDO as Comrade DW was a leader with whom we have mooted the idea of a 'One Nigeria Diaspora.' He was to play a major role in shaping the interests of Nigerians in the Diaspora. He should not have died, now. We will miss him greatly.

To his family and friends may the Almighty God comfort you and may the soul of Comrade DW rest in eternal peace.

A giant and respected Nigeria Diaspora UK community leader has fallen. A personal, family friend who never says No to me. A selfless, genial, generous and understanding person, who will never take anybody for granted. I've never seen him angry. A friend who will check on my family by phone or visit when I'm away from the UK for long periods, and even when I'm around.
He was the European Coordinator of our Champion For Nigeria group, which we founded together with several other dedicated and patriotic Nigerians and non-Nigerians in 2008. He was a supporter of many noble causes, and was also a Pioneer member of the Society for the Advancement of Yorùbá Language and Culture, UK.
His death came as a rude shock, and I'm not sure for how long I will be able to live with him nor being around.

My family and the whole Nigerian community in the UK have lost a Gem of a Nigerian.

May his great soul rest in perfect peace. And condolences to his wife Yeye Tina, and daughter, Wemino. I pray that the Lord will be with them and give them the fortitude to bear this tragic and irreplaceable loss.

Richard Taylor, Obe published a tribute .

Otunba, I was dumb in total state of confusion when I stumbled into the breaking news of your passing away. We spoke on Ileya day, not knowing that'll be it.
My heart has been bleeding in profuse agony.
What can we do, what can we say ,than to say thank you Lord for the exemplary life you lived. It's a saying that good anointed people don't live too long in this wicked world.
You left your printed foot for everyone of us to emulate your kind heart, your Philosophical gestures will always be remembered by all of us in the Diaspora and the world in general.
Your life bloomed like the flower of the April Spring and never could it weather even with the pangs of death till eternity.

Sleep on my brother in the bosom of our Lord Jesus christ.
May Allah grant your young family the strong will and fortitude to bear this Cross, and to wipe away their tears in Jesus Holy name. Amen.
Richard Taylor, OBE.
