Biography

Melissa (Isaacs) Casey was born November 3rd, 1962 in Dayton, Ohio. She was raised by her father, Olmie Isaacs; her mother, Geraldine McGarvey, and stepfather, Dennis McGarvey. She passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58 on Sunday, October 17th, 2021.

Melissa visited the Grand Canyon state in 1984 and made it her permanent residence in 1987. She vowed to never return to the Midwest after being drawn to the beauty of the desert. She resided in Mesa, Arizona where she earned her nursing degree from Mesa Community College in 1992. She was a Registered Nurse with close to 30 years of healthcare experience, 20 of those years in a level II emergency department. In 2020, she made the move up north to Show Low, Arizona to her ultimate paradise, “Mel's Place.”

Melissa was beautiful inside and out. She was the life of the party and the spark to a wildfire, with a “no holding back” kind of playfulness about her. Her antics and wild ways put a smile on everyone’s face. She had a passion for all things outdoors and loved her garden almost as much as her grandkids. Her bold and thoughtful heart will be greatly missed.

Melissa was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jeff. She is survived by her children; Jenna, Tom, and Kristen (Cody), sister; Linda (Joe), and cherished grandchildren; Kennedy, Annalise, and Harper.

A headstrong lady who unapologetically spoke her mind.
Y’all who knew her knows the most outrageous things came out of her mouth.
& I LOVED THEM!!
She was playful and kept people laughing while simultaneously shaking their heads @ the nonsense.

I loved her & her antics- entirely.

Mel, thank you for being a great example of a bonus mom.
Evil stepmom who!?? Not you ❤️
Thank you for accepting all of us.
Thank you for spending a good chunk of your life with us.
Thank you for loving us these past 15 years.

You are missed and will continue to be.

Love you forever, Mama Mel.

She was the spirit of Show Low. She showed me how to truly enjoy the mountain. She was up for anything. A hard worker, a great friend. It will not be the same without you sis. I miss you horribly. But I am so happy I got to be your friend. ❤️

Melissa helped me get job at Old Hickory and I worked there while I was going to college. Back then we both partied a lot and we always had some wild times. The specifics of most can’t be mentioned here.
She was always so kind to me ,and she had a way of making people feel special. That’s a gift.
May she dance in heaven with her family.

Well, shit, Mel! I remember in the ER, you were pissed because they cracked down on you for being late. 31 times. We laughed, You’d be late for your own funeral. Geez girl, I wish you were. I miss your funny ways and laugh already! Rest easy. ❤️

Had such a fabulous time with Mel in August at Mel’s place in Show low. We had so many fabulous adventures, all unplanned and random. We even scored last minute Roger Klein and the peacemaker tickets. So glad I finally took that trip. Mel was a fabulous host and tour guide. I am so sad Mel was taken from us all so early. Sincere condolences to her family. I am so very sorry about your loss of this incredibly special lady.

Melissa was my cousin she use to visit Ky and stay a week with us when we were kids.. she was definitely a city kid. The 1st visit we showed her a cow Patty. She was amazed, we tricked her into running thru a fresh cow Patty splitting it wide open she had cow poop from head to toe... many good times thru the summer. She also learned us how to place a twin mattress at top of steps and go flying down. Rest in peace my sweet cousin. You are definitely missed ❤

I had the pleasure of having Mel as my friend for more than 20 yrs. We made so many wonderful memories. Cabin in Forest Lakes, trips to Rocky Point and Cabo, houseboat trip, Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties, Halloween and Superbowl parties, New Years Eve Parties. Zoom parties during Covid. Many birthdays. Karaoke. She loved life, her family and friends. Such a true friend. Loved her beautiful smile and contagious laugh! We would share our nursing stories and complain about our aches and pains. I wasn't ready to say good bye, I was planning on many more amazing memories with her. I was so looking forward to meeting her for lunch that day, to catch up and hear all about her tranquil haven in ShowLow. She was so happy there with her beautiful flowers, garden, and birds. She beamed when talking of her granddaughters and family. She was a free spirit. She would bring me the most beautiful flowers from her garden. They were always so perfect, delicate and dainty.
The day she passed away I asked her to give me a sign that she was at peace. The next morning, first thing I went out my front door to my gardenia bush. Deep down in the middle of the bush was this most beautiful gardenia. The only one in the bush, which never blooms this time of year. And since then there have been no more blooms. i think she definitely gave me a sign that she is at peace. I shared this with her daughter, Kristen, and brought the flower to her so she would know. I can't imagine the sorrow and grief that her family is enduring right now. I hope they know that they are loved and we are all here for them, to help them during this most difficult time. May fond memories of Mel, and the support of friends and family help to ease their sorrow.
This horrendous jolt has made me realize to listen to your intuitions, check on your friends and family and hold them close. Peace to all.

Melissa was my oldest friend. We were neighbors on Indiana Ave and she always kept in touch after I moved away. She taught me how to make french toast when I was 9 years old. She also got me in trouble many many times. 8 years ago I was going through some medical issues and I was complaining on FB she got in touch and solved my problem over the phone. Her loss has really affected my life. She was a wild and crazy kid with a good heart. I will never forget my friend.
