Your life has impacted not only your family but your friends throughout the world. You will not be forgotten.
Lynn Merle Johnson, 75, of Corvallis, Oregon, died on January 28th, 2023 after complications following a heart procedure. Lynn was adopted by Lulu Belle and Floyd Johnson and raised in a small Mennonite community in Perryton, Texas. He was the second of four children, and brother to three sisters.
In the late 60s Lynn left Texas to attend Heston College in Kansas, before moving to Los Angeles to serve out alternative service and finish his degree. In LA, Lynn developed a close network of friends with whom he worked and played tennis, and raised a family whose soccer games he coached or refereed for almost 20 years.
Lynn’s career spanned from his work “computerizing” the US Census Bureau in the 70s to data analysis with RAND Corporation, USC, and UCLA, before independently developing computer adaptive testing software for the LA County Court schools in the 80s and 90s. In the early 2000s, Lynn moved to Bahrain to work with the Ministry of Justice to modernize their courts’ technology and communications systems. While in Bahrain, Lynn discovered his passion for dispute resolution, mediation, and international arbitration. When he returned to the US, he continued his work in mediation, and after the passing of his partner in 2016 he moved to Corvallis, Oregon to support the court systems in Linn and Benton Counties with a focus on reuniting families and helping individuals and families avoid foreclosure and eviction.
Lynn is remembered as a world traveler, devoted friend with a kind and generous nature, and beloved father of four. Those who wish to honor Lynn’s work in dispute resolution and community activism can donate in his name via the QR code linked in the Mementos section.

I thoroughly enjoyed my association with Lynn as a friend, co-mediator, and co-arbitrator. His gentle humor resulted in a more relaxed atmosphere in even contentious negotiations, and he always knew just what to say to defuse a difficult situation. I was honored that Lynn agreed to act as a faux party on my mediation firm's promotional video (picture); I smile at fond memories every time I visit my own website.

Lynn and I became friends as we both volunteered at Neighbor to Neighbor Mediation and Training Center. We had many spirited debates and enjoyed visiting on the phone and after mediation sessions. We made quite a pair. Lynn was always dressed in a suit and sometimes me in my Vans stocking cap and braided hair. I will miss you my friend!

I got to know Lynn when we moved to Bahrain in 2008. He helped us to get started with our internet connection and lend us his own IT network box. We met together with Beth Olsen and Lynn almost every Thursday for late lunch after work. It was great to have known Lynn as a friend. We moved back to Austria 2 years later sadly Beth died shortly after and I heard from Lynn via FB. Thinking of him fondly
