Hi Ian and Beth - I am sorry we were not able to attend in person, however, we are so pleased we were able to view this service from a distance. Aunt Eleanor was one of a kind!! We all share so many super memories of this extraordinary woman. Robbie and Erin also have many fantastic memories of her trips to Athens. Our granddaughter Mya also remembers Aunt Eleanor even though she wasn't very old the last time she came down to see us. We share in your loss but she is no longer suffering. We have nothing but great memories both in Athens and Wingham. Thinking of all of you and thank you again for sharing.

While we never had the pleasure of meeting your mom we feel like we know her as we are living in her old house and many people have told us stories of the incredible lady she was. Hearing the stories of her at the service sure made us realize why our home has such a wonderful feel to it. This rose, which must have been planted by your mom, blossomed in the middle of our renovations...it was perfect and a sign we needed to treat the home with care which we will. Deepest sympathy on your loss.

Eleanor was a friend in every sense of the word. Loving and compassionate and always interested in other’s lives, we looked forward to her little blue car pulling up and her cheery visit. She attended our Bible study regularly and when she moved away, we missed her small figure sitting cross-legged on the living room rug sharing her experience and Godly wisdom. She looked forward to ‘going places’ and joined us on downhill ski excursions, on camping outings, on hikes, and at New Year gatherings. On her drop-by visits, she loved to go for a walk on the path at the park and chat about life. Her involvement in Pioneer Camp was the spark that got many us to join her and experience women’s weekends. On occasions she capably (and humbly) rose to the challenge of being a speaker at these weekends. On one of them she memorized the scripture of the whole first chapter of Ruth and then, in disguise, very ably acted it out. Losing Eleanor leaves a hole in our lives, but we also know, that by her example and loving friendship, she helped us in our journey with Jesus and our lives are better for having had her in them. Our love and sympathy to the family. Eleanor was truly a family member and friend who stands as a shining example in our lives. Love Gary and Maureen

We were classmates at Covenant College,1963-1965. Many years later we picked up our friendship at the Shakespeare Festival;hosting me in her lovely home, we travelled Wingham area to see the special sites she loved so much including the park as of today's service. Eleanore with your sparking eyes - a special friend. Peace be with you and yours. Lovingly, Donna Griffiths Krucik

Another Ward Xmas. In the top left corner you can see an example of the colorful quilts Aunt Eleanor gifted us over the years. My favorite cozy blanket. Ruth Bader Ginsburg would approve of her crocheted collar. Ian is just happy not to be opening another sweater.
The ministers mention of the author Max Lucado reminds me of all the great book recommendations she passed on when I was raising my children.

Dearest Aunt Eleanor,
I can’t remember a time when you weren’t, in some way, very much a part of my life. From the toys I loved as a baby that you gave and I cherished , to the overalls you made me for Christmas when I was 8 that I loved.....but was too embarrassed to tell you they didn’t fit.....you were surprised at how long they lasted. And of course the Christmas you made me a set of underpants for each day of the week. What every 10 year old wanted.
As a teen you listened to my stories and didn’t think I was weird.
You bought me my first 24 hour nursing watch that we picked out together.....one I had looked at and coveted through the store window for months.
And when my world fell apart, you asked questions, and listened.....without judgement. You shared my anguish, fear , victories and joy.
I will always cherish the birthday present you gave me one year, tickets to Stratford’s presentation of A Midsummer Night's Dream and part of the cast was from Cirque du Soleil. It was phenomenal.
We had our strong disagreements, argued about things we felt were important to argue about, but I always knew the fight was about the issue, not the bond between us.
When I was little I asked mom what it meant that you were my “ G-d Mother “ and mom said that if she and dad died then I’d go live with you. Well, mom and dad are both still very much alive, but in many many ways you will always live in my soul.
Thank you Aunt Eleanor
With much love
Chris

Eleanor put so much into everything she did. Her presentations were amazing. She did one at our church, First United, in Ottawa. Her theme was "The Bent Over Woman." I'm sure many can remember that one.

Travelling with Eleanor.. Eleanor and I along with cousins Ruth Boyce and Betty Fullerton, went on a trip each fall. We took turns organizing it and deciding where to go. One year, Eleanor organized a trip to Niagara Falls. Here she is on colourful steps that led to fun! Great memories.

I visited Eleanor in the fall. It was a precious time together. We coloured, I talked incessantly and I know she was pulling up memories. She communicated through touching, laughter, tears, and smiles. When I asked if she'd like flowers, she said"two," then pointed to herself then me. We had our meals together in her room, thanks to the wonderful staff. We both cried when I left. II'll always hold that visit in my heart. Safe journey, Eleanor. 'till we meet again. Much love to you as you journey...

Time goes by so quickly these days. This also seems like yesterday. The world would be a better place if there were more souls like Eleanor around. She always had the best intentions, the purest of hearts and the gentlest of souls. She is always missed and celebrated for the kind and loving person she was. Beati Mundo Corde.

Dear Eleanor’s family,
We look forward to sharing memories of Eleanor with you on Saturday. Eleanor was a wonderful support person for our family. She and Jim were the first ones to welcome us to Wingham inviting us to lunch after church. Our lives stayed connected through out the years with Eleanor looking after our children then Eleanor being Andy’s educational assistant at Wingham Public School. She was always so youthful and ready to try anything and go anywhere. Her strong faith was evident in all she did - teaching Sunday School, Youth Group, Pioneer Camp and so much more. She was a very caring and wonderful teacher. Many times you couldn’t see her in the classroom until you looked on the floor and there she was with all the students around her reading books and doing crafts.
We are thankful for her positive involvement in our lives.

Eleanor was one of the "community moms" of our friend group growing up. The door to her home and her heart was always open to Ian's and Beth's friends. We were welcomed and loved, and many times even learned a few things, even if we just came over to play board games or build a snow fort. Her light shone for many years on the hill over the bridge, and we were blessed. A very special lady, always ready with a smile, and we thank God for her.

Beth / Ian, in Kim's garage at her cottage there is a box of photos for you from Art and Joan's library of photos. I sorted through them a couple of months ago and came up with a wonderful assortment of photos of all of you growing up. Many happy memories of Christmas holidays at Wigamog, Collingwood and even some out west. I don't think there is one photo where Eleanor is not smiling. She went through so much and remained a light for so many. My heavens you must be proud of her. I am sure there is much of her in both of you - and for that we are all grateful. I am sorry I cannot make the service but will be there in spirit. Be well and stay safe. My love to all.

Eleanor was a very special person to all of us. She had a way of connecting with everyone, regardless of age. We remember her as children when she would spend hours playing games with us and also as adults showing a genuine interest in our lives... our interests, accomplishments and our struggles. Our Dad had a very close connection with Eleanor (their mothers were sisters) and they spent a lot of time together growing up.
We all have very special memories of Eleanor and miss her dearly. Rest in Peace Aunt Eleanor and know that you were a very special person to everyone who knew you.

A few words of appreciation of Eleanor Beaton Ward,
I was so pleased when my brother Jim found and married Eleanor, a lovely, adventurous woman who made him very happy and proud.
Eleanor was a marvelous mother, bringing up Ian and Beth so competently on her own from a very early age due to Jim’s tragic passing. Ian, Nicky, Beth and Jesse have become wonderful parents themselves no doubt due to the solid example she set.
Eleanor loved being a grandmother and enjoyed spending many hours and days with Ian and Beth’s children. They benefited greatly from her special love, attention and talents.
Eleanor contributed significantly and generously to her Wingham community.
My family has fabulous memories of being with them and our brother Art’s families at Christmas and at the summer and winter homes of our niece Kimberley Ward Grossman.
I will remember Eleanor very fondly and know that the life of my family was enriched in many ways because of her part in it.

Eleanor was such a loving and dedicated grandma. She loved being a grandma and my girls could feel that every time they were with her throughout her life. When they were younger, she was full of ideas for crafts and games and activities. As they and she got older she was always overjoyed to see them and would love to chat with them about school and activities in their lives. We all miss her so much <3.
