David Kline McCormick
b. August 2, 1954—d. September 14, 2021
David Kline McCormick was born August 2, 1954 in Dumas, Moore County, Texas. He was the third child of Dr. John William McCormick, Sr. and Mary Annie Nall McCormick. David died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday September 14, 2021 at his home in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas.
He is survived by his three siblings, Vicki McCormick King (Ben) of Cedar Park, Texas; Dr. John William McCormick, Jr. (Kathy Jo) of Austin, Texas; and Dr. Michael Nall McCormick (Jolene) of Georgetown, Texas; and nine nieces and nephews.
David grew up in Dumas, and graduated from Dumas High School in 1972. He was active in choral music and football, proudly wearing jersey number 77. He had a life-long passion for and deep knowledge of Dumas sports and football in general. His love of singing continued throughout his life. He was well-regarded locally as an excellent karaoke singer.
David earned degrees from Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian College, and had varied occupations over the years. He was a resident of Lubbock until moving to Austin in 1996.
When David’s parents moved from Dumas to Austin, David became an integral part of their care, and remained devoted to their well-being until their deaths in 2015.
David retired and purchased home in Taylor, Texas in 2016. In his later years he developed a rich interactive life on social media. Friends highly regarded his posts on politics and religion, and particularly the world of football and his beloved Dumas Demons. As one friend put it, “David was always such a supportive and witty person, with a keen insight and passion for what he thought was right.” Friends have remarked how they will miss his play-by-play sportscasting on the Dumas Facebook Group.
David wrote of his future passing, “[my dad] and my mom are with the Lord in heaven. Christians believe that we will all see and know each other when we get there. I am a Christian and truly believe I will see them again. There will be no death, no more disease, and we will be more alive than ever before. Eternal life with wonderful people and our God. Praise the Lord forever.”
A private family memorial is planned.
