More than 20 years ago, a group of us from SmithBucklin went to dinner at Rio Grande Cafe, filled up on enchiladas, fajitas, and frozen drinks called Swirls, and enjoyed each others’ company as we laughed the night away and caught up with each other outside the office. It was so much fun that it became something we would do often throughout the years. We called it “Swirl Night,” and we all looked forward to it immensely. Eventually spouses and children started joining us as well, and it was always a great night. The SmithBucklin group included Chris, Christie, Melissa, Betty, Lisa, and Steve – and at the center of it always was Cele. She was constantly making us laugh or captivating us with some crazy story, and often just watching her facial expressions would result in belly laughs for all. She was a great friend in so many ways, and was always there to lend an ear and be supportive whenever we needed her guidance. We are heartbroken over Cele’s passing. She was truly one of a kind, and we are blessed to have been able to call Cele a good friend. We recently got together with some carry-out food and Swirls from Rio Grande to share stories and memories of Cele. Here’s a picture from our last Swirl outing with Cele in December 2019. We loved her and will miss her very much. May she rest in peace.

Cele was a great mentor and friend. I can remember my first pre-con with Cele where I was in awe of how she communicated ASN's needs to that city. She was tough but always focused on doing the right thing. Cele knew how to have fun and had a great laugh. I was so sad to hear about her passing and only wish we could have given back what she gave to so many of us that worked with her. May she rest in peace.

My heart goes out to all the Fogarty family members on the passing of Cele. From our first days at Saint Mary College, Cele and your families welcomed me into your lives. During college, Cele was one of my closest friends and staunchest supporters and offered laughter, encouragement, straight talk, food, drinks and her car (Baha) through it all. As our lives moved on, we had the ability to pick up and carry on our conversation no matter how much time had passed. I loved knowing she was there and it breaks my heart that she will no longer answer that call. Hugs to you and your families as you deal with the emptyness. Thank you for sharing her with others.

I had the wonderful pleasure of being Cele's hairstylist. Since 1988. I have been able to spend 1 hour with her every month (except during Covid).
We have had great conversations and she loved my jokes. Her laugh was contagious. I loved being part of her event planning. One of my first question to her each mouth was, "So where is your next trip? I loved hearing about her next convention. Cele would beam with her description of the upcoming event. Today, I checked my appointments for Saturday, May 29th and first thing in the mooring is Cele Fogarty. It's with heavy heart I will have to cancel her appointment. Cele will be missed but never forgotten. I'm so happy I had the pleasure of seeing Cele every 4 weeks for 33 years. Hugs, Love and Prayers.

I remember Cele as the consummate professional who managed to always be kind to those around her as she carried out her duties with excellence. She was the foundation of the ASN Annual meetings and more broadly, she contributed importantly to the national treasure that ASN is today. It goes without saying that she will be missed but we will always remember her by just looking at the benefits that ASN brings to medicine and society, from its Annual meeting and beyond, because Cele's work is manifest in most aspects of ASN.

Cele, oh the fun we had growing up and working at DQ..The four Queenies..You, Beth, Chris and myself... there are a lot of fond memories of those years and the fun we had TPing houses, buzzing Peter’s, Chinese fire drills..oh and we can’t forget sitting around your parents dining room table and playing Canasta.. and visiting with Aunt Aggie.. even though we lost touch after high school you would pop up in my thoughts ever so very often.. Rest In Peace my dear childhood friend..give both of our parents hugs and kisses..my condolences to Cele’s family and friends you are all in my prayers..

I was deeply saddened to hear that we have lost Cele. I remember her well and fondly for her exemplary assistance to me when I was on the ASN Council, and especially when I was ASN President. Cele was always there when I needed her help and her contributions were always rendered efficiently and cheerfully despite the pressure of orchestrating the mechanics of the world's biggest and best nephrology meeting. I am sure her loss will be felt by not only ASN as an organization but by all of us who have known and worked with her.

I will miss your wisdom and guidance, Cele. Over the years, you never hesitated to share your insights as we both navigated through the same waters of overseeing a large medical convention. Though stressful at times, we managed to laugh often. Thank you for that. God bless you!

I have so many fond memories of Cele. For example, I never wear pink and green together, at least not on Thursdays, per Cele's advice; and I think of her whenever I go through the drive-through at McDonalds remembering how she once asked them to "hold the raisins" on her hamburger (or whatever it was that she ordered, obviously during a period of high stress). Cele was probably the most generous person I've known. She was a true, compassionate friend and will be dearly missed. My deepest condolences to all who loved her.
