Cecilia Rose

Forever "Fireball" in our Hearts

Biography

Cecilia Rose danced her way to heaven on Friday July 31, 2020 from a brief but valiant battle with cancer.

Cecilia Rose touched the lives and hearts of thousands. Her focus for those she helped was "taking the pain out of change" and she was a “fireball who ignites a flame inside the hearts and minds" of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Cecilia believed that when a door closes, another door opens.  Cecilia helped so many people find the key to that door for a more fulfilling, successful, secure, happy and meaningful life.

She was truly an inspiration to everyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with her. In this time of grief, Cecilia's friends and clients are honoring Cecilia's legacy and channeling their grief into helping others facing a cancer diagnosis.

I first met the whirlwind named Cecilia Rose sometime in the 70's. Fascinating person that she was, I learned that her mother was also a very special person. We sporatically were in touch over the years until our paths crossed at LHH when she was conducting a class and I peeked in to see her again after ~30 years.
The world was a better place when she and her energy were right here with us. She was one of the most amazing people I've ever met.

I am only now learning of Cecilia's passing. She was so full of life, it seems impossible that she could be gone. But after she didn't respond to my email at Christmas I started searching and discovered the horrible news. I knew Cecilia because she and I worked for over a year encapsulating her life's work into a book. We were tying up loose ends and completing a last chapter when she had to table things to move to a new office space. Life happened; a year passed. And then I emailed her too late. A whole six months too late. If anyone has contant information for her family, please reach out to me. [email protected]

I met Cecilia in 2013 when I joined her Senior Executive Roundtable. I will always be grateful for her wisdom and grace, which helped me evolve both personally and professionally during the career transition I was in at the time.

In the years since, I have tried to uphold all the mantras she shared with me and others in our group. My favorite was "you never ever know", which she used to describe the serendipity of transition and of life in general, and therefore the importance of keeping an open mind at all times.

Cecilia, may you rest in peace knowing how many people you touched forever.

I met Cecilia over 10 years ago. Saying that she touched my life would be an understatement, she made a lasting impact on my life's journey in a similar way described by so many in this space.

THANK YOU CECILIA! Thank you for putting so much of your life's energy into becoming the force for good that you were for me and others. Thank you for disclosing that its OK to 'fake it till you become it'. Thank you for training me to put the words 'what can I do to support you?' into use as often as possible. I am forever grateful!

It has taken me this long to be able to write this note without tears (well, okay, without a flood of tears). I knew Cecilia for 37 years. Throughout all of those, she remained a stalwart friend and I remained an Admirer, easily in awe of her ability to positively touch every human she met. At Continental when we had an especially tough day, her humor would set us all right side up. The adventures of The Boogie Woogie Bagel Girls still make me smile. The old portable record player (turned incense burner) that she somehow managed to get on the plane for her visit to Big Sur was a major part of many wonderful meditation sessions in the redwoods. The many memories I have of our conversations, long dinners and wonderful phone visits are treasured beyond words. I know the Angels are smiling to have Cecilia with them. They are lucky, indeed. And YOU, Dear Friend, are sorely missed.

"Oh, better than minting of a gold crown king, is the safe kept memory of a lovely thing" ST

I first met Cecelia 20 years ago, through several exec positions, life changes, and tons of fun and mentoring. Became best friends.

Best story - took her to Ireland for one of my international conferences - 150 people from 10 countries and she came in with her hair like after finger in light socket. Totally on fire - staff was sort of shocked, and polite. Never saw anything like this before. In the evening we did a full up Irish Hooly with singers, story tellers, dancers and rounds of good cheer. Noticed that a lot of my staff came over to just chat with her - drinking her lemon water - next day my wife took her out to see a bit of Ireland as we pretty much use it as a second home country. By the end of the stay, she bought pretty much every trinket from Doonbeg to Dublin, two suitcases full and looked like a leprechaun. We had so much fun with her over there. Later, found a number of my staff called her and asked for mentoring and help with both business and personal matters, became good friends with many. Later, found she actually had to get a passport to travel and really never did much outside North America.

We brought her back to Newport Beach the following year and she was mobbed. So very happy and so content. It was just wonderful.

We shared many dinners at Del Frisco's and always had her hot lemon water with dinner. Usually green salads where she brought her own dressing out of her purse and maybe fresh fruit for desert on occasion. I used to kid her that she was the most focused health nut I ever saw.

Although, it is sad to lose her so young, the memories are intact and her impact on the human race across continents is assured. What a fine lady.

Will certainly miss calling her and first words out of her mouth always the same, "Well the inimitable Jim O'Brien what's the scoop baby?". All good here, and imagine the volume in heaven just went up a 100 decibels.

Miss you girl,,J

I first met Cecilia at my first constellation workshop about 10 years ago. We had chatted several times during that workshop. At the time I was working on my ICF certification and we casually discussed the need to do your own personal work if you are going to be a coach. I guess she thought that I needed a little more reminding before leaving about that weekend about those conversations. Because on Sunday when we were all leaving and saying our good-byes, she came up to me, stands about three inches away, and starts jabbing her index finger in my chest. And with each jab of her finger she says, “You have to do your own work. You have to do your own work.” Now you have to picture this, I’m six feet tall and Cecilia is about five feet four inches tall in her heels I am guessing. I am looking down at her and she is looking up and me. I thought it was just the funniest thing ever. However, I never forgot that conversation and to this day I am still doing my own work.
I am a retired U. S. Marine and would be damn proud to have Cecilia in my platoon anytime anywhere
I will miss her greatly and I love her for the help and advice she provided me over these past years. She was always trying to help people and was not afraid to say what was on her mind. I needed someone like that in my life at that time. I might not be here today if it wasn’t for that “You have to do you work” scene burned into my mind. I know heaven will not be the same now that she is there. It will be better!

To me, Cecilia will always be remembered as a mighty woman with a strong voice. I remember her telling me the story of her not talking when she was young, and now, that's what she did for a living. She encouraged and empowered me with that story. And she told me another story of how she overcame uncomfortable moments in uncomfortable spaces by treating everyone as their being a guest in her home. That stayed with me and in fact, I've shared that story many times with my audiences. Her stories will purposefully go on because of her impact in my life and the many others' who loved her. Rest in peace, Cecilia. Thank you for your mighty and strong impact!

As Karyl said, you may be gone but you will live in our hearts forever. I cherish the “dream” stone and the magical stone you gave me. I still carry them in my handbag as you instructed me to do. I think of you regularly when I am looking at the bottom of my bag for a misplaced item (that can be quite often). We had so much fun together checking out the new restaurants, tea houses or just rearranging furniture in my house.:) You were always present and a present to me as a friend. You taught me to be in the moment. You helped me verbalize my goals and last week I attained that goal, sadly unable to share it with you. Did I tell you “I love you” today  Dear Cecilia, I will miss you so much.

Cecilia was a very special person as many people have shared here. She gave me the shooting star in this photo many years ago, and I have kept it on my desk top all this time to remind me of my own north star and what is true on days when things got foggy for me. Over time, I got know her better over long conversations, belly laughs, and many cups of tea. She had the best laugh ever. She loved life - every wonderful, messy, crazy part of it. She was one of the most authentic, true to herself people who I have ever met, and she inspired honesty and clarity in others. She loved people and helping them on their journeys, and she celebrated so many of our successes with us. I have saved many small notes of encouragement she shared with me over the years. She was very wise and funny. I wish peace and healing for everyone in her family. I am praying for each of you. I like to think of Cecilia as a shooting star who has left our sky for now, but who will journey on in spirit. It's up to each of us now to pay her gifts forward to others in our lives.

Cecilia was one in a million. We met through her senior executive forum. I was honored when she invited me and said I was the youngest or one of the youngest she's ever coached. Cecilia always gave people thoughtful gifts. Just after Hurricane Harvey ravaged my home and business, she showed up with this beautiful compass clock which I have on my desk every day to remind me of my true north. When I left the energy industry to launch a dream to help women in energy, she kept my spirits high saying "Knock em dead kid" when the doubters turned their nose at me. Cecilia and I would have lunch for hours, laugh, and talk about change. She was a force of nature, a giver, a firecracker, and had so much left to do in this world. I will miss her and forever remember all she gave to me and others. I know she's dancing and singing "100000 points" in heaven with the angels.

Cecilia was a special friend to me and my husband, Lex Gillan. I learned from Cecilia in my early days of starting my coaching and consulting practice but she took yoga from Lex years before that. She visited us once in Santa Fe and I remember those days together where the conversation never stopped, about life and spiritual growth, because that was her real work. Cecilia was light in her persona but very deep in her thoughts - and so serious and devoted to her work. I could - and did - talk with her for hours. But she was a busy woman - like all of us - and those times were few and far between. However, never to be forgotten. We lost a real light on this earth but there's no doubt that she is loving wherever she is. And our love will always be in our hearts for all that she was and all that she gave.

Cecilia may be gone from this earth, but will live on in the hearts of the countless lives she touched and transformed. She was unique, inspirational, hilarious, loving, generous, amazingly energetic and darling. She had an enormous gift of helping her friends and clients focus on what we truly wanted and how to achieve our dreams. Her methods were wonderfully unconventional, imaginative and effective. She firmly believed in the law of positive attraction and that people wouldn't achieve their dreams unless they clearly knew what they wanted.. She was always late for airplanes and would chant a mantra "I'm late so the plane is late" and it always worked for her. She would encourage clients to write a list of the specific characteristics of what they were seeking and find a picture of it. To reinforce the lists and pictures in the mind, Cecilia said they should be placed on the front of our refrigerators. Consequently, we would be positively attracted to those events, traits or characteristics when we encountered them. The picture is from my wedding which Cecilia helped happen. I told her that I wasn't meeting anyone special and she named my refrigerator Esporonza and wrote a certificate making it magical. Of course, she made me write a list of characteristics I wanted in a husband and what he would look like. I put the list and a picture of George Clooney on my refrigerator and within 6 weeks I ran into my husband -to- be, who looks more like Cary Grant than George and had also coincidentally written a list of qualities he wanted in a wife. A year later we were married and Cecilia caught the bouquet. Our marriage is a very happy one, in part, because of Cecilia's significant contribution. This is just one story of the impact Cecilia had on peoples' lives. She was an amazing life force who truly made the world a much better place!!!

We became fast friends. Over the years, I participated in her Next Door Workshop, Senior Executive Roundtable, Senior Executive Forum, and she has been my executive coach for the last 5 years or so. My sincerest condolences to Cecilia’s family and all who mourn for her.
I will always remember our dear Cecilia as a force to be reckoned with. She was in a constant state of self discovery and actualization. And all who were touched by her, even in a minimal way, could not escape doing some soul-searching and personal growth of your own. The lessons she taught us, in word and deed, are numerous and have greatly influenced my core beliefs and worldview.
Our dear Cecilia was one in a million, a rare pearl in a world replete with gritty grains of sand. She was from another world, not a mere mortal. I am so grateful that God allowed her to walk among us, even for this short time.
Even though her work here is done, she is still with us. Her example guides us, her fearlessness inspires us and her love comforts us.

From the time we met at DBM in 1997, Cecilia and I started down a path together. Over the years we partnered on many business projects, special events, my HR Roundtable network, her senior executive Roundtable, etc. We recognized that our strengths were different, and they complemented each other’s, so we called it our “mutual admiration association”. On a more personal level, she held my hand through my divorce, and procured a new cat for me, Jasper, when I lost my Midnite. I shared my expertise with corporate politics and edited marketing materials for her when she started her new business. We loved going for sushi and movies to try to stay in touch on a regular basis. Cecilia is a fiery spirit that taught me so much about life, business and relationships. Her workshop open doors of my heart and creative spirit which led to me writing and producing a musical, finishing a bestselling book, and meeting many friends. I am so grateful we were on the planet together at the same time. She gave me courage to believe in my dreams.

I met Cecilia 20 years ago when she was an outplacement counselor for DBM. We were close friends ever since. We enjoyed a lengthy phone call 6 weeks ago when I learned of her cancer. While I was deeply saddened by the news, Cecilia's voice had the usual high energy, optimistic tone which I am sure was attributable to one of her famous juice blends! There is no doubt that Cecilia had a major influence on my opportunity for personal or professional success. I can hear her laugh and recall her many expressions, including "I have a MSU (make stuff up) degree! Except in her case, she really did know and possess great wisdom. Cecilia put herself "out there" and was truly lived the idea of continuous improvement in many ways. So thoughtful and kind; to this day, her personally inscribed "landing" gifts to me, together with her contribution to my office feng shui objects occupy prominent spots. Upon her passing, I immediately grasped the talisman she gave me and re-read her heartfelt message. She left us way too soon and there is a large void not just for us who knew her, but for all those she would have met in the future. My deepest condolences to her family. Sweet dreams, dearest friend. May G-d bless her. May she rest in peace and may her name be for a blessing.

Cicillia brought her love for life to everyone she met and always complimented you. She made anyone feel as if they had it within them to reach their own potential. She was more than a friend to me, she was family and I will miss her.
