Biography


Alice Amanda Weibel of Winterset, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 18th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 5720 Urbandale Avenue in Des Moines.
Memorials to Middle River Hospice of Winterset and/or St. Andrews will be appreciated.
Alice Amanda Clinger was born June 8 in Winchester, Virginia; the daughter of John and Emma (Arnold) Clinger. She was raised in Winchester and later attended beauty college and worked as a beautician in Philadelphia, PA before moving to Iowa. She spent most of her adult life in Des Moines.
She co-owned and actively participated in the management of the Lazy M. Shoe Stores headquartered in Des Moines with locations in Merle Hay Mall, Park Fair Shopping Center and several county seat towns in central Iowa. She worked in the shoe stores until the last store closed in the late 80’s.
Alice was an active member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Des Moines where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and entertaining. She was also a member of various organizations and supported several charities throughout her lifetime.
Alice loved and respected all living things and will be remembered as a kind woman who was gracious and caring. Above all, Alice was the most precious and loving mother.
Alice is survived by her loving daughter, Suzanne Weibel of Lorimor. She is also survived by Robert Arnold of Winchester, VA; Freda Arnold of Winchester, VA; Audrey (Terry) Bender of Martinsburg, WV; Ruth Lopp of Berkley Springs, WV; Patricia (Ike) Dodd of Bunker Hill, WV and JoAnn Plotner of Inwood, WV.
She was preceded in death by her parents and twin infant brothers.

I'm so sorry for you loss. In high school I worked at Lazy M for 3 years (and later in college in Ames). I worked upstairs with Mrs. Weibel often and she was always so kind and elegant in her manner and with her words. If I happened to do a little favor for her, she would say "Oh thank you, I'll dance at your wedding." which I always remembered fondly and sometimes say now myself. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
