This memorial was created in honor of Carol Ann Norwig. Although there will not be a memorial service, please join us in celebrating Carol's life by sharing memories and photos to be compiled into a book as a keepsake for the family. Thank you for being a special part of Carol's life.
Carol Ann Norwig was peacefully taken home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 26, 2020, with her loving husband and daughter by her side. Carol was 72 years old and had been battling Alzheimer’s for several years. She resided in Dallas, PA with her husband, Bill, of almost 52 years, and their cherished dog, Porky the Pug. Carol was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many.
Carol was born on July 13, 1947, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Willard and Joan Keiper of Sebastopol, PA. Carol was the oldest child and always had such a caring demeanor for her two younger sisters, Edna and Patricia. During her teen years, Carol worked at a local dress factory in Plains, PA, until she graduated in 1965 from North East High School (now Pittston Area). At 18 years of age, Carol enrolled at the Jerrytone School of Cosmetology and became a hairdresser.
On June 24, 1967, Carol and Bill were married at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and settled in Washington, NJ where Bill was a school teacher. Carol worked at an upscale hair salon in Basking Ridge, NJ, where her little claim to fame was that she once washed Jackie Onassis Kennedy’s hair.
While still living in New Jersey, Carol and Bill adopted a Korean baby girl, Tami, and two years later adopted a seven-year-old Korean boy, Adam. There was never a moment that Carol did not love these children as her own flesh and blood.
Carol was an extremely hard worker and was always quick to find a job no matter where they relocated. Carol had the joy of working for a close friend at a daycare center in Dallas, PA for many years. Since she enjoyed working with children so much, Carol went on to teach preschool at Lancaster Christian School in Lancaster, PA.
After yet another move to be closer to family, Carol was blessed with the opportunity to be the cook at Camp Orchard Hill in Dallas, PA. Little did she know that this would become far more than a job; it became her ministry. Carol touched countless lives in her 15 years at Camp Orchard Hill and left a legacy that has spread far and wide.
Carol’s most recent volunteer job prior to becoming a resident at the Meadows Nursing Center was helping at the former Rock Solid Academy Christian School in Dallas, PA. Carol loved being around the students and looked forward to going to work with Bill as long as she was able.
Outside of her work life, Carol had many hobbies such as sewing and scrapbooking, as well as a particular love for photography. She almost always had her old 32mm Canon in tow, aimed to capture as many memories as possible. Carol loved to go “shutterbugging,” as she called it, in Cape Cod, where she and Bill vacationed every year for decades. She would stand on the beach each year like it was the first time she had ever seen anything so amazing.
From the time the Lord saved her at 30 years old and introduced Jesus as her personal Savior, Carol was always very involved in her church wherever they lived. She was known to make meals for others in need, teach Sunday School, and help with VBS. Most recently, she was a member of Cross Creek Community Church in Trucksville, PA.
Carol was a woman who instantly made you feel at home and always saw the good in people. She sought to encourage others and was a sincere listener. Carol loved the Lord and was the type of person who always put others first. She leaves a great void in the lives of many, and while they are sad, her loved ones are rejoicing that she is suffering no longer and is in the presence of Jesus.
Carol is survived by her husband, Bill; her son, Adam; her daughter, Tami and husband, Jim Perrin, of Hatfield, PA; and her two grandchildren, Jimmy and Cody Perrin. Carol is preceded in death by her sister, Edna Jean Keiper; father, Willard Keiper; mother, Joan (Russell) Keiper; and sister, Patricia (Keiper) Kiebler.

Carol was such a beautiful person! She made every person that came to camp feel welcomed and loved. She worked on a shoestring budget in those days and still managed to put out great food that everyone enjoyed. Personally I think she made the best soup...the soup Nazi had nothing on Carol :) She loved on our kids and insisted that we bring them by the house each year during Halloween. It was more than just the chance to give them candy...she genuinely cared and wanted to celebrate with them. Each year she made us Christmas ornaments which we still hang on our tree every year. For 10 years I had the privilege to serve alongside her and I know she heard her Lord and Savior say "well done good and faithful servant". I loved her, we all loved her. Until we meet again Carol...until then you will be missed.

One time when I was younger, my parents went out of town so my older brother and I stayed at the Norwig’s house. For lunch, Mrs. Norwig made Mac and Cheese. I asked if she had any ketchup. She said, “You put ketchup on your Macaroni and Cheese?” I replied, “yes.” Before I started eating, she asked if she could try some. I said it was fine. After trying a small amount, she looked at me and said, “Hmm, that’s pretty good.”

Carol’s smile was heart-warming, her heart was filled with love for everyone who had the pleasure of calling her friend & her love for Jesus was an inspiration to us all. Carol & Bill came into my life when we met at church in the late 70’s & continued to worship together for years. Carol had a genuine love for her Savior & expressed this love in so many selfless acts of kindness to me and my family. In the early 80’s when we were beginning our family, Carol ran & taught at my Day Care Center. Her creativity, organization & love for the children was amazing. Carol put the “CARE” into Day Care with her warm hugs & bright smiles. There are so many special memories that I could share but Carol will always be remembered in my family as the sweet lady who gave all 3 of my children their 1st haircut. These 3 kids grew up & had the joy of eating her yummy food at Camp Orchard Hill as campers & later on as staff members.
In the summer of 2004, I was continued to be blessed by this beautiful servant as I came on staff at COH as the 1st Day Camp director. Carol always encouraged me to trust God in this new camp ministry and each day had ice coffee to get me through the hot afternoon.
Carol was my friend, my sister-in-Christ and my mentor for whom I will ever be grateful to God for blessing my life with!!! We love you Carol and will keep these sweet memories of you in our heart. Debbie, Dave, Josh, Daniel and Mary-Kate Katyl

Tami & Bill, my prayers and love to each of you in this time of sadness & loss. Carol made such an impact on my life that I actually had to take a couple of days to think about what I would write in tribute. She made working at camp so much fun. She seemed larger than life with her very expressive eyes and facial expressions in her more zany moments. I told her several times that she reminded me of Lucille Ball. When I crack raw eggs with my kids I still sing "Salmonella, It'll kill ya," loudly to the tune of the hallelujah chorus. Great memories! Carol appreciated so many little things...watermelon, blueberries, the smiles of those she loved. She would appreciate them out loud which made you thoughtful about what you appreciated too. I loved how Carol & Bill loved each other. She would get so exited when he was coming to visit during a camp meal. I loved how they talked to each other and about each other. When Mike & I got engaged, I knew that I would like them to head us in the right direction. Bill & Carol took the time to do premarital counseling with us. That was fun & we learned many things that we will never forget. We are so grateful for that investment. Carol embodied so many traits that I emulated, but it was her love that really set her apart. I think that Carol Norwig had learned how to love others bravely. She didn't hold back in fear, but she loved wholeheartedly. It wasn't that she had never been hurt, but that she determined that she would love anyway through and despite the hurt that sometimes comes with love. That taught me a lot. Even as I write this it is still teaching me. I am so so grateful that God put Carol in my life. Love you, Carol! Thank you so much for everything! Looking forward to seeing you in heaven!

Carol always made you feel as if you were related to her and part of her family. Early memories are when she, Bill and the kids lived on Apple Tree Road in the 80s, when they moved from Stroudsburg to Harding. Serving together at Dallas Community Church and the dear friendship that began. Spending precious times together in each other's homes and celebrating birthdays and life events together.
Visiting us while camping was always fun. As our children grew, we were able to go out as couples and we remember going to see "Dances With Wolves" at the Gateway Cinema in Edwardsville. Going out to eat together was a joy as we were able to catch up on each other and the kids.
Carol will be greatly missed by all she touched with her life. She loved everyone and was loved in return.
What a blessed hope we have knowing we will see her again.

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Carol was her love for her family. She and Bill had a special bond and in her latter years she felt safe when she was with him.
Her unconditional love for Adam and Tami and how much love she had for her grandsons!!
She always was praying for others and asking us to join her in prayer.
Her sweet spirit will be missed but she is right where she longed to be...with her Savior!!

Carol and I worked together at Camp Orchard Hill for a few years and she was such an encouragement to me. I cherished our chats and laughs. Her joy and love were evident. I am so thankful for the honor of knowing her.

Carol was a dear friend and wonderful preschool teacher. I have fond memories of Carol and Bill spending time with my husband and I even after they moved back to Dallas. She will be missed but I'm sure she and Tim are rejoicing in heaven together.

If there is one thing you could know for sure about Carol, it was that she loved you. The kitchen was always a safe place to find a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, and a warm hug, no matter how ridiculous the teenage drama you were angsting over. I don't remember much of what she said to me, but I sure remember how she made me feel: loved. I'm so sad to hear she is gone from this earth. I grieve with her loved ones left behind, and I rejoice with her spirit, now in glory with her Savior. Looking forward to a hug next time I see her!

I was blessed to have Carol come into my life when we worked together in the Toddler B class at Wyoming Valley Montessori School. She was a gentle, kind, and loving person and treated each of the children at our school like they were her own. One of my favorite memories of Carol happened on our annual Grandparents’ Day at school. One of our elementary students didn’t have any grandparents to bring to school, so Carol offered to be her grandma for the day. To this day, I share my “Carol stories” with my family as an example of true love and kindness.

For 3 months in 2006 I spent every single day with Carol. She was tasked to teach me everything she knew about being the camp cook. She taught me how to make breakfast for hundreds and every other thing you could know about feeding hundreds of campers, but honestly , that is not the most important thing she taught me. She would say cooking was just the vehicle to pour yourself into the lives of the kids and the staff. Her hugs were memorable, her care for each individual was obvious and her love for Jesus was what compelled her to be who she was. She became my mentor, my teacher and my friend and when the 3 months ended, she handed me the spatula and pushed me out of the nest, into the kitchen and was gone to start a new chapter in her life. Little did we know that she helped me start my 12 year stay at camp and I can only hope that I was able to show half the people the love Carol showed at her time there. Hugs to the family. You were truly blessed with a very special lady.

My very first memory of Carol is at a Christmas party for the medical company where John & Bill worked together - this was probably around 1996. I hadn't met any of John's co-workers and was a bit nervous to attend the party. We ended up at the same table as Carol and Bill and a few other couples - the only people I remember are Carol and Bill. They were both so kind and sweet. I clearly remember Carol making sure to draw me into the conversation at the table and making me feel comfortable. She was always a warm and welcoming example of Christ's love. God bless your family; we are praying for you all.

So many tears of joy fall as I think back of all the songs sang together, the laughter shared, the canned pudding scooped, and the long conversations about Jesus, and so many other topics. Carol was always encouraging and willing to hug anyone who needed it. An inspiration to many and a kick in the seat of the pants to those who needed it. Words cannot express my love for Bill and Carol. They were spiritual parents, friends, and in some ways adopted family. In the many years of connection, the support and love was always a two way street with these amazing people.
It comes down to one major thing... Carol and Bill have a desire for people to know Jesus as saviour and have spent their entire lives pointing people to him..
