Walter "Walt" Harold Sheppard, II
For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21
In Loving Memory of Walter Harold Sheppard II
On December 11th, 2024, Walter Sheppard entered the eternal embrace of his Savior. Born in Camden and raised in Villas, Walter, affectionately known as Walt, shared nearly sixty years of marriage with his one true love, Peggy. He leaves behind his four children—Walt, Tammy, Kim, and Jay—along with their 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Walt was not just a skilled craftsman, but a versatile jack of all trades. After dedicating his life to Christ early in their marriage, Walt spent over five decades using his skills as a way to share the testimony of how Christ had profoundly changed him. To those who knew him, he was characterized by incredible physical strength, a relentless work ethic, honesty, integrity, and always ready to joke with a stranger. What he would want to be known is his love for Christ Jesus and his Peggy, who he affectionately called “Babes”.
Walt's children serve in the ministry today as do his grandchildren. Walt’s life exemplifies how one person's surrender to Christ can reverberate through generations. Walt’s hands now cradled by the loving hands of Jesus, welcomed as a good and faithful servant.
A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor at 11:00 AM on January 7th at Tri-City Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 24058 Heritage Place, Port Charlotte, FL 33980. All are welcome to join the family in celebrating Walt’s life and the lasting impact he has made.

When I first met my father-in-law, I noticed how he loved his wife so much. He just wanted to make her happy…even at his expense! Muffy kept him busy with so many projects. I remember a slogan that he had for his company at one point was something like “You dream it, we’ll build it”! I truly thought that he could build almost anything. He was so creative in his work. I’m so thankful that he passed down an incredible work ethic to my husband who in turn passed that to our children. Toward the end we sat together in church often. His heart was so tender and ready to hear his son preach the Word! The songs would bless him so much and he often cried. I’m so glad that we have the assurance that we will see him again since he had accepted Christ as his Savior and only way to Heaven. What a day that will be….a sweet reunion for sure!

¿Cuál es tu recuerdo favorito compartido con Walter?
I remember one time that I made him a meal, and took it over to him. He just hugged me and started crying. It warmed my heart at how much the little things meant to him. Sadie Sheppard (grand daughter)

I keep waiting to hear Papa knock on our door and say “anybody home?” but he won’t be knocking anymore. And as sad as that is, I know he is with our Savior right now, (probably reading revelation 18) so he is more than happy! Papa was the hardest worker I know, seriously no one could outwork him, even at 78! Papa never left our house without giving us all hugs and I’ll never forget his hugs, they were my favorite! Papa loved BIG! He loved God, he loved his Babes, he loved his kids, and he loved his grandkids! Anytime he started talking about his family he would start crying and just say that he was so blessed! I was loved BIG by my Papa, and that love will always be with me! Being his granddaughter means I will strive to always work hard, I will love my family BIG, I will be thankful for the decisions & sacrifices he made in order for me to have this life, I will strive to be a Christian ready & waiting for the Lords return, and I will never leave the ones I love without giving them a hug, because you never know when it will be the last! Thank you Papa for loving so big that even if you can’t be with us, your love always will. I love you & miss you, Papa!

I have so many great memories with papa. Most of them were made on the job site. He was one of the hardest working men I’ve ever known. Any time we’d work together, I’d set my goal that day to not stop until he did. From a young age, I always respected him, and wanted him to see me as a hard worker. He’d work laps around anyone! He loved working on projects for Muffy. He would always have the nicest house wherever they lived. Not because they bought it that way, but because of Muffy’s creativity, and Papas hard work. There are two main things he loved to talk to me about most! One was why every human being needed to have a juicer, and he’d talk about his latest thing he juiced. His recipes were so disgusting! I always would try his concoctions to make him happy, but there were a few times I wasn’t able to keep it down, or eat for days afterwards, but boy did he love it. He’d juice anything he could get his hands on. The other was his prayer life! There was a while where he lived in a mobile home park in Port Charlotte, that had a dock, that sat over the harbor. He would go out there every night and pray for hours. I loved hearing him tell me all about his devotional life, and the joy of being able to talk with God, and get alone with Him for hours. I’m going to miss those conversations and many others. I love you Papa, and I miss you so much. I look forward to seeing you again one day!

Papa, you are missed so much! I'm comforted in knowing that you are with your heavenly father and you are in no more pain. I know that's exactly what you wanted. It reminds me of the hours of car rides going to and from Home Depot while you would break down your revelation theories to me. Then just sum it all up and say "maybe God could just take me now and none of that will matter" Well, it's been sad to see dementia slowly steal you away from us; but, It doesn't take much effort to remember exactly who you were! You were the hardest-working man I'll ever know! Everybody on the job site was so perplexed by your workability. To say you are a jack of all trades is an understatement, you were truly a master at all! It's hard not to think of anything that I do and not somehow tie it back to you teaching me that very thing. I remember looking over your shoulder for hours a day just watching and trying to figure out exactly what you were doing. Or trying to guess which tool you might need next so I could get it for you before you asked. You were such a good person and never wanted the praise for your work. You were just there to help anyone that needed it. I truly looked up to the man you were! You passed on your love for the trade to me early on and I couldn't get enough of it. You were a wonderful grandfather to me and I'll forever be grateful for your impact on my life. It saddens me to think the rest of my kids won't get to meet you in person. They'll just have to settle for the stories I tell them when they're being lazy. Go ahead and start working on my mansion. Love you, Papa. -Andrew Sheppard

I didn't know Walt well, but did spend some time working on a project at the church with him. He was always so pleasant, and always had a smile. His knowledge and work ethics were commendable. Anytime that I greeted him at church, he always had that laugh and smile that just touched the heart.
