Walter Ackerman

Walter Ackerman, of Athens, Ohio died Saturday, June 9, 2018. Born May 6, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio, he was the son of Christian and Theresa (Kolonaty) Ackerman. A veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War, he was the superintendent of the Waste Water Treatment plant in Athens from 1966 until his retirement in 1984. He had worked at waste water treatment plants in several cities in Ohio for 30 years, at the time of his retirement. Since 1996 he enjoyed spending time at the ocean, living during the spring and fall months in North Topsail Beach, N. C. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa and Gary Wharton of Athens, and Anita and Tim Mayfield of Belpre. Also surviving are a granddaughter and husband, Jacqueline and Daniel Warmke of Chauncey, along with their children Norah and Penny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Jennett Ackerman, three sisters and two brothers, Alma O’Conner, Emma Kubuske, Clara Shuster, Frederick (Jake) Ackerman and Richard (Dick) Ackerman. In staying with his wishes, no funeral services are planned.
