I met Russ in middle school/junior high. I moved soon after and thereby lost touch with everyone from Auburn. The news of his death shocked me because although it had been years since I last saw Russ or spoke to him, I still remember him for being kind, funny, and laughing at my jokes. Russ, you might not remember me but I wanted to thank you for being my friend when it wasn’t cool to be my friend. I hope your soul finds peace and that you know that you made my life better during the brief time I knew you.

I met Russ when I was 20 and we instantly connected over music, writing, and books. I will never forget the shows we saw together and that laugh of his. What a profound impact that kid had on my life. This is so unreal. My heart is definitely missing a piece.

LOVE YOU RUSS!!! We met in college and you've been a truly an amazing friend and made me feel special as a person. I'll never forget all the great times we had at Auburn with our friends and then keeping in touch since then. I spoke to you last February when you needed help with your resume. I don't know what happened, but today I am so so sad to learn that you passed into the next world. Please watch over us and can't wait to give you another hug!

This still feels unreal, and I've been struggling for days to express into words what Russ meant to so many of us. What I always admired so much about Russ was his bravery and his kindness. He connected with all of us so effortlessly, and he was never afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. And more than anything, he made me laugh, constantly. I will miss him dearly.
