Steven Robert Henry
2 de noviembre de 1965 - 23 de junio de 2020
2 de noviembre de 1965 - 23 de junio de 2020
He was loved by everyone who knew him.
Born in Pequannock, New Jersey, Steven grew up in Bloomingdale and Kinnelon, NJ. He graduated from Kinnelon High School and lived in northern New Jersey until his death from natural causes in his home in Pompton Plains, on June 23.
From an early age Steven was “supercharged”, with amazing energy. In high school he ran on the cross-country team, and as an adult he loved taking long walks every day, in any weather.
Steven was born with challenges most people will never experience, but which made him the amazing person he was. Although he had to cope with neurological differences, he successfully attained his high school diploma and became a self-sufficient adult, living independently with an active social life. On his neighborhood walks he greeted everyone with a friendly “Hello sir / ma’am” and especially loved the Little Food Inn, where he greeted every employee when he visited. He was loved by everyone who knew him.
He was a client and an active participant in Newbridge Crossroads in Pequannock, NJ, and was vice president of the weekly community meeting. He was remembered as someone who was always happy and would try to make others happy. He was employed by the Foundation for the Handicapped, and was a diligent, reliable worker.
Steven had a passion for sports, and was a dedicated fan of the NY Mets, the NY Rangers, and the NY Giants (after a brief 20-year hiatus following the Cowboys in his youth). His sports knowledge was encyclopedic, and he could recite major games, team players, World Series winners by year, and much more. For sports trivia questions, Steven was the one to ask.
He was a devout Catholic who regularly attended St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Pompton Lakes, NJ. He loved his big family. Even though they were spread across the country, he would call his close circle of family and friends every Sunday to stay in touch. His cousins, aunts and uncles, especially his Aunt Peggy and Uncle Rich, always made sure to include Steven in numerous family gatherings and activities, and Steven especially loved watching his cousin Lori’s children’s sporting events at Kinnelon High School.
He is survived by his parents Theresa and William E Henry Jr. of Vero Beach, FL, his sisters Laura Gallo and Theresa Henry, his brother-in-law Rick Luhmann, his nieces Theresa and Gwyneth Luhmann, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother William John Henry, and his brother-in-law John Gallo.

I am saddened to hear bout the loss of Steve Henry. I met Steve in high school. We were very good friends from 1984 to 1998, We were both huge Mets fans, Steve was friendly, funny and very generous. Steve had a heart of gold. I hope he is Resting In Peace.

So very sorry to hear of Steven's passing. I am an usher at the 5:00 pm Saturday mass at St. Mary's and he would always have a smile on his face and greet everyone he saw. He would shake just about everyone's hand at the Sign of Peace and as he would leave the church, I'd be there with a bulletin to hand him, only to be told...'the bulletin and Beacon are in the bag'...and a hearty handshake as he left. This past year, when we found out it was his birthday, the other usher, also named Chris, told the celebrating priest and at the end of mass, the whole church sang 'Happy Birthday' to him...it was a sight to remember. God Bless you, Steven.

I remember Steven at Foundation for the Handicapped, where he worked! He always was pleasant to talk to, and always had a card for me at Christmas! He loved Little Food Inn, and I met him there several times as he was picking up his food. He loved Donna Kreps, and she passed 20 days before due to cancer. Bye Steven, you were a sweet great friend! RIP!

Just Wow, this news saddens me. I was friends with him through school and was actually just thinking about looking him up here on FB to reconnect. I ran into him a long time ago when he introduced me to his GF. His smile was a mile wide. He was such a nice guy and will be missed by many.

Sarit and I are very saddened. We were close friends with Bill (Billy). We did not know Steven well, but we felt like we did with the way Bill talked about him. It was clear they had a close and loving relationship. When Steve spoke at Bill's memorial service, we could see that it was not easy for him, but that he was determined to honor his brother. Back in 2017, Sarit and I met up with Steven and his girlfriend. We visited Bill's grave together, and at the end Steven wanted a few moments there by himself. The rest of us waited by the car. When Steven returned the two of us hugged. I didn't plan to, but it just happened, and I am glad we did. Earlier in the visit we gave Steven a Tom Seaver jersey we had originally bought for Bill. The jersey didn't fit Bill and for years we had it in a drawer not knowing what to do with it. When we made the plans with Steven to visit, we knew we had to bring the jersey to him. I've attached a picture of the two of us. Our deepest condolences to all of Steven's family and friends.
