Nicholas McDaniel Fletcher
13 de marzo de 1983 - 26 de septiembre de 2021
13 de marzo de 1983 - 26 de septiembre de 2021
Nick, 38, passed away on September 26, 2021, following a plane crash in Fayette Co, WV. He was born March 13, 1983; in Portsmouth, VA, and was a lifelong resident of Chesapeake. He was a graduate of Deep Creek High School and James Madison University. Nick was a sought after and well respected telephony engineer, providing his skills to many hospitals and school systems in Tidewater.
A wonderful father, Nick cherished spending time with his children and family. He loved flying, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, and spending time at the ancestral home on Kerr Lake with friends and family. He loved golfing, and shot his best round ever—a 73—in recent weeks. Nick was smart, generous, kind and funny. His humor ranged from the sharpest witty remarks to the most groan worthy dad jokes. In recent years, he fostered numerous dogs rescued after disasters in the Caribbean—with expert assistance from his beloved fur babies Penny and Yin Yang.
Left to cherish his memory are his former wife, Cristina Taphouse Fletcher, and their children, Violet Grace and Jacob ; mother, Karen Rhodes Smith, (Don); father, Frank “Hank” Fletcher, (Judy); grandmother, Violet McDaniel Fletcher; brothers, Zachary Fletcher (Sarah) and Evan Smith; sisters, Samantha Doughten (Reid) and Nicole Smith; aunt, Cheryl Fletcher Drum; cousin, Morgan Fletcher Drum; brother-in-law, Jeff Taphouse, (Maggie); partner, Hannah Braade and daughter Gaia; nephew and nieces, Henry and Claire Doughten, Eliza and Maggie Fletcher, and Ellie Taphouse; and friends far too numerous to list.
He was preceded by his paternal grandfather, Frank Fletcher; and his maternal grandparents, Alan and Harriet Rhodes.
There will be a celebration of Nick's life this Sunday, October 3, from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at The Venue at Cahoon Plantation (1501 Cahoon Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23322). For those unable to attend in person, it will be live-streamed on this Memorial Page in the Events tab. This will be a joint memorial also celebrating the life of his brother-in-law and best friend, Mike Taphouse.

I worked with Nick at St Juliens Creek Annex. He was one of the most talented voice communications engineers I had the pleasure of working with. I will remember him for his joyful wit, sense of humor and smile. Even during times when work was the toughest and we were in the most frustrating circumstances, he was smiling and cracking jokes. My deepest condolences to Nick’s family. He will be missed by many.

Nick was a genuine great guy. Very witty and funny. Made me laugh whenever I spoke with him. I will miss him. To his family I send my condolences. The Island Dog Rescue link doesn't seem to be working for me. Can someone find out if there is an updated link?

Nick and Jake at the top of the Billy Goat Trail. Jake saw the view and yelled, “It’s SO beautiful!” then they celebrated.
