Michael Donovan
25 de noviembre de 1964 - 22 de enero de 2021
25 de noviembre de 1964 - 22 de enero de 2021
It is with great sorrow that Paul and Angela Donovan announce the death of their only and much-loved son Michael (Mike) Donovan on 22 January 2021. Michael is survived by his parents, children Tyler and Gabrielle, three sisters, Kate Watson, Clare Donovan and Lucy Wright and nieces and nephews. Michael was only 56 when he died but had a full life surrounded by countless friends. He became a legend in Cambridge behind the bar at Homerton and at the Flying Pig and his many performances in pantomimes with the Penshurst Amateur Dramatic Society, Blackham Country Players and Burwash Amateur Pantomime Society were unforgettable. Michael was always good company and lit up the room. He will be terribly missed by his loving family and friends. Michael had a lifelong struggle with mental health and any donations in his memory to the Mental Health Foundation https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/donate would be appreciated.

Michael. What an honour it was to know you. I will never forget the barking dog story the first time I met you. I knew instantly that you were my kind of person. I have enjoyed our chats over the years and will miss your friendly face and sense of humour. I will always treasure the Dachshund ornament you gave me from the old lady that kissed you when you were four. I hope you have now found peace x

Michael and John, cousins and bearers of the family name. Sadly neither have made ‘old bones’. Both were talented but troubled and ultimately tragic. Their lives enriched mine, and I will not forget the happy family occasions we were all part of. We grew up together and as adults shared weddings and birthday celebrations...the last ones being my Dad’s 90th and dancing at Andrew’s 60th. Michael was a ‘snappy dresser’, fun to be with, kind, witty and much loved. xxxx ‘Cousin Anne’

On Friday 22 January my big brother Michael died. When I was born, he cried because I wasn’t a boy. I did my best to be a boy and grew up playing cricket, football and chess with him. We played war games, painted mini figures, built airfix kits, studied heraldry and practised archery with garden canes. When I was a teenager we went to pubs, listened to music and got on each other’s nerves. All through my adult life Michael was there at every significant event. We didn’t see each other that often, but there was always fun and laughter whenever he was around. The last couple of years were awful for Michael and it hasn’t been a good experience watching him struggle and eventually succumb to his demons. Now he is at peace and I am left with the memories of cricket and the Jam and all the wonderfully weird times I spent with my funny, loving, spectacular brother. Goodbye Michael. I love you xxx
