Hal was a kind man and loved his family very much. The memorial letter is a beautiful tribute to him. Heaven is even better, if that is possible, with Hal.

Wies and Wiel Ettema-Leclair Hal was a very warm and lovely person. Husband of my oldust niece Marjo. If hé was with Marjo visiting, her hometown it always was a very Nice holiday, lots of laughs and great fun. Always interested in how everybody was doing. When we were visiting them in California hé always Made us feel very at home. It was a nightmare for us, we had a very nice time in the Netherlands with Marjo, and then receive the News that Hal died in a plaine crash. Dear Hal you were a dear friend, very greatfull for knowing you. Love you Wies, Wiel, Patrick, Sandra, Roger.

It was somewhere in 1979 when we met Hal for the first time, he came with Marjo to visit Holland. I immediately found Hal to be a sympathetic and especially interested man, he wanted to know everything about everything. We visited numeral places in the years to come. The following years Hal and Marjo came to Holland and we went to California to visit our family. I remember the moments in my garden together with Hal drinking rum and smoking cigars and especially having good conversations. The Christmas that we as a family were able to spend with you will always be in our memory and is something we will never forget. We didn't know Hal as well as the home front but what always struck me was the quiet way in which he expressed himself, always calm and peaceful. I also remember the time that Aaron got married and we appeared at the wedding as a surprise. I still see a proud father giving a great speech. Marjo was in Voerendaal the day the terrible accident happened, I will never forget that Sunday morning when Marjo told me the bad news. Hal we love you and will never forget you. Rest in Peace John, Paula, Roel, Peggy, Voerendaal The Netherlands

Hal & Marjo were my first friends to get married. How young and innocent we all were back then. They had a beautiful Fall theme for their wedding at a hotel with a lovely ballroom in Redondo Beach. I, as a bridesmaid, even loved our dresses. Claudette & I each spent one week of our income from Sear's & Bullock's for our joint wedding present, Southwestern Towels and something else, which slips my memory. How much could that have been back then? To us, it was worth every penny. Gary & I danced the Tango solo on the dance floor...sober! A really fun wedding. Marjo, you picked a good one!
