Recuerdos

Gregory Alan “Red” Stephens, 63, of Parkersburg, W. V. joined his parents on February 5, 2023 and is now walking the Streets of Gold with them. Greg was born 3/06/1959 in Parkersburg, W. V. to Nelda “Faye” and Stanley Everett Stephens as the youngest of 4 sons. He was also preceded in death by his life partner, Pam Travis and his paternal grandparents Goldie and Everett Stephens. He was great friends with his Uncle James “Red” Hancock before his uncle’s untimely death. Greg is survived by his brothers, Stanley "Steve" E Stephens II of Morgantown; Kerry and wife Judy of Parkersburg; and David and wife Nancy of Williamstown; niece Heather Armstrong of North Carolina, and nephews Eric Stephens, and James R Morris of Parkersburg. He is also survived by his Uncle Gary Paul Nichols and his wife, Aunt Sharon. Additionally, he is survived by his friends Victoria Coakley, and friends in the neighborhood, Ellen and her family and Eddy across the street, as well as Mitch Barton and Scott Charlton and many others unknown to this writer. Greg grew up in North Parkersburg and attended Parkersburg schools. He served in the U. S. Navy in the 70s and worked as a truck driver in the 80s, worked as a tow truck driver, and for Yellow Taxi at various times, then finally for JR’s Donuts before he became disabled. Greg was quite the storyteller and liked nothing more than recounting his stories of his earlier life and childhood and even rewriting history at times! He would talk as long as an ear would listen, and belly laugh as he told the tales! Often called “Red” himself as a testament to the curly mop that adorned his head, he would often claim stories of the brother’s adventures as his own with a twinkle in his eye and a challenge to prove him wrong! He saw his position as the youngest brother as somewhat of a curse at times! His fondest memories of youth were of his dad racing high speed outboard boats on the Ohio River and his involvement in that sport with his dad and his brothers. Greg was also a fan of country and blue grass music. He was most proud of his service in the U. S. Navy and to hear him tell the stories, one might think he was a lifer there! Ah, but be careful of what you believe in Greg’s stories!!!! He was every bit the Irish imp he looked to be! But even in the stories, Greg loved. He loved his family, especially his mom. He loved his friends. And he loved Pam. He had a battle in life understanding how to show that love at times, but then don’t we all? There will be a Celebration of Life and Witness to the Resurrection held in Greg’s honor and to share memories as desired on March 4, 2023 at 1:30 p. m. at the Parkview United Methodist Church, 2210 Fairview Ave. Parkersburg, W. V. 26101. It will be officiated by his friend, Rev. Raymond Maleke. In lieu of any flowers, please make donations to the Parkersburg Urban Ministry housed at 219 11th St. , Parkersburg, W. V.
