I’m thinking today of my beloved friend and first real web design client who always believed in me and is a huge part of who my husband and I are today. We were the web developers of BnBFinder from the late 90s to early 00s. On 9/11, we cried on the phone together as the world came down around us. I miss her. I wish she was here to see how my kids have grown up. This is a photo of Mary with my cat Diva in my apartment at 1 West St. Diva hardly liked anyone but she loved Mary.

Mary was a wonderful friend and neighbor. I feel fortunate and privileged to have known her. She came into my life when I was most in need of a good friend, three thousand miles from home, family and friends and about to have my first baby. Our beautiful baby boys were born 90 minutes apart and both boys and Moms became fast friends. I had no clue of what raising a child in New York city involved but thank heavens for Mary. Mary organized play dates, trips to museums, parks, zoos and of course bargain shopping. She had contacts and friends everywhere. To my son Liam she was his " other Mom". He always jumped at a chance to go over to Steven's for a play date and have one of her peanut butter and honey sandwiches. I think he wanted to see his "other mother" just as much as he wanted to see his friend. She was always there for us whenever a baby sitter called sick and once even for a trip to the emergency room in the middle of the night she came to sit with Liam until we returned several hours later. I didn't even have to ask her Her joy and jest for life knew no limits. She put her heart and soul into everything she did, being a Mom, a friend, a business woman, finding John the love of her life and her golf. When she told me of her diagnosis, I blurted out "oh Mary life just s...." Right away I was told " Yes it does but it can be damn good too and I'll be darned if I don't fight every day for every minute I can get" And boy did she fight: with grace, dignity, courage and strength. She inspired us all to do better and showed us the right way how everything should be done. Thank you Mary my dear friend, I miss you and I will always remember you. Our deepest condolences to Mary's parents, Steven, Kristin, John and the Walsh family.

Mary and I and our daughters became lasting friends just after 9/11, when Mary and her family temporarily relocated to my neighborhood until it was safe to return to their apartment. Kristin and my daughter Isabella were 8 years old, and although they were in school together none of us had met until the girls shared the same school bus stop during this time. For about the first 6 months, every morning Mary and I would see the girls off on the bus, and then proceed to stand on the sidewalk and talk for over an hour. We would later laugh that we just could not stop talking - and that we did not think to go inside! From that time forward Mary (and Kristin) have been lights in my life and in my daughter Isabella's life. We love them dearly, and are so grateful that the fates brought us together. To know Mary is to know her warmth, humor, kindness, strenght.. and GREAT LOVE for her children. And such lovely and wonderful human beings Mary has given to this earth. When talking about our daughters, Mary would often say "How lucky are WE?!?" So very true, and also how Isabella and I feel for knowing Mary. Mary's absence on this earth is felt so deeply, and Mary is deeply missed by so very many who loved her, and whose lives she has touched. People were drawn to Mary, and Mary connected people. A gift, and a joy for all who are lucky enough to know her. One day this past March I was watching clouds drift, and I was thinking of Mary, and of Kristin and Steven.. And I was so struck with the surety that Mary was watching over her children, and organizing angels for their benefit, with the same charm and focused determination that so many on earth know and love so well. And I swear I could hear her laugh and see her smile, as her plans to do her work from above fell beautifully in to place. I will hold you in my heart and in my thoughts for all my days, wonderful Mary xo
