More details about the memorial:
Mirabel was known and loved by so many. We invite those with a personal connection to Mirabel or her family and who are fully vaccinated to attend the memorial in person. In the interest of ensuring everyone’s safety, particularly unvaccinated children, all others, including children under age 12, should attend virtually. Your presence on Zoom will be seen and deeply appreciated. In addition, please know that there will be many ways and many times in the future to support and be present with the family.

It is important to Mirabel’s family that this event be as safe as possible. With that in mind, these are our plans and expectations:

• Only fully vaccinated individuals may attend the memorial in person. Anyone not fully vaccinated (including children under age 12) should attend virtually.

• The entire event will take place outdoors. People will pass briefly through enclosed entryways and hallways to reach the outdoor courtyard areas.
• Masking in the Meeting’s indoor spaces is required by the District of Columbia. In addition, we ask that people remain masked throughout the event, even when outdoors. Anyone speaking during the event is welcome to remove their mask while speaking, so that they may be heard. (For more information on what to expect during the service, please see below).
• We expect that anyone attending in person who is eligible to be vaccinated will be vaccinated.
• Anyone not feeling well should not attend in person.
• Those planning to attend in person are asked to register in advance (see google form link at top of this page) and provide name, age, vaccination status and contact information. This will help us to plan safely for those attending and to conduct contact tracing afterward if needed. All information collected will be safeguarded and then deleted two weeks after the event.
• Coffee, juice and water will be available after the service, and we will take steps to avoid crowding around drink stations. People are welcome to take off their masks while drinking.

Information about what Quakers and what to expect: Friends Meeting of Washington is a Quaker community where Mirabel and her family have worshiped, played, served, and formed loving connections for many years. As you prepare for the memorial service for Mirabel, we want to share some background on the nature of Quaker worship and what you can expect during the service. Quakers gather for worship in silent expectation as a memorial to a Friend who has died. We believe that in the silence, all people can experience the Light within directly. Our memorial meeting has no pastor, no altar, no sermon, no program, and no choir. Any ministry that occurs comes from those in attendance, including you, who feel led to speak or share a song or a reading. We encourage sharing any thoughts, memories or stories you have about Mirabel that are especially meaningful to you. It is helpful if you stand to speak and remove your mask if you feel comfortable, so that others can hear you better. Please leave a few moments between messages so that all have the opportunity to reflect on the previous message. The memorial service may last approximately an hour or 90 minutes, or until all who wish to speak have had a chance to do so. The clerk will close the meeting with an announcement that the service has concluded. Afterward, we will share beverages as we (safely) mingle and visit.
