Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery

We among the oldest of cemeteries for the public in San Gabriel Valley. Here's what's unique:

A historic cemetery: As Americans spread into the Western US, settlers often buried their loved ones on family property, and Pasadena’s pioneers did so too. Laura Giddings and Charles Banbury (son of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Union Army) were buried on private land that lay along the Arroyo Seco, now part of the Wrigley Estate, headquarters of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. When Colonel Banbury decided to sell his property in 1882, the matter of what would become of these graves became urgent. Mr. Giddings offered some of his property to be set aside forevermore as a garden cemetery. The first burials were moved in early 1883, and by the end of the year other transfers were made for a total of 24 burials. After almost 140 years, the descendants of Levi W. Giddings still operate the cemetery, mortuary and crematory.

Grand mausoleums: Over the years, Mountain View acquired Mountain View Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue, and Pasadena Mausoleum further down Fair Oaks Avenue at Woodbury Road. Both mausoleums offer the finest in crypts, niches and Westminster crypts (non-visitation below-ground crypts with garden memorial plaques for visitation).

Non-denominational chapels: Mountain View has two chapels: Chapel of the Gardens (at Mountain View Mausoleum) and Sunrise Chapel (adjacent to PasadenaMausoleum). Also available for memorial services is the open-air Vista Del Monte committal, and the intimate Drawing Room next to our main office for family gatherings. Mountain View is also known for its extensive stained glass windows from the famed Judson Studios of Los Angeles, art collection, and arboretum grounds with trees from all over the world.
