Dear Merv, As I write this my eyes are blurred with tears. I can't come to grips with the reality of you being gone from our lives. I feel that your presence is still with us and I will always keep it alive and keep you in my heart. We watch Mechanismo on You Tube and take comfort from your music and videos. We all treasure the memories of meeting up in Manchester and Ireland...first in 1987, you were 11 years old then and you played the accordion for Grandma, she always requested "The Peeler & the Goat"... Grandma loved your music, and she loved you, at 11 years old, you looked just like your dad when ha was a kid.
Our last meeting, over a year ago, at your dad's funeral was a sad occasion for us all, but you helped us all through it with your caring ways. I don't think I've ever met a young man as caring, sensitive and good-hearted as you; you turned your world upside down to be near your dad in has last days...truly one in a million. It makes us all so sad to think that you may have been battling depression and we knew nothing about it, you were always so upbeat, you kept it all to yourself, so as not to upset anyone. I'm closing the same way you signed every email in such a personal way. BIG KISS!!

Dear Merv. I'm so sad that you're gone from this life before I really got to know you. We met once on your trip to New York ten years ago, and not again until your Dad's illness, when I met you several times in Ireland. You were a wonderful son to him- moving heaven and earth to be able to be in Ireland with him during his illness.I was with your Dad in the hospital in Galway, and had to leave to go back to the States. You tried unsuccessfully to change my ticket, and then you came from Spain to be with your Dad so he wouldn't be alone in the hospital. He wrote to tell me that you just walked in and surprised him. He was so happy to see you! You always kept me updated about his progress and you were so solicitous of him, always encouraging him and doing everything to make him comfortable. I know that his death was hard for you, and I wish I had known that you were having trouble coping with the loss. We could have given you support and encouragement. I am so glad that you had so many loving caring friends in Spain and that you were happy there, and I hope that in death you find eternal peace. Until we meet again, Love and Hugs. Aunt Mary.

Sadly I never got to meet you Mervyn, but the comments paints a beautiful picture of loving caring young man and a son to be proud of. Why were you taken from your loved ones far too soon? “Entre documentos, mails y otras tonterías sin importancia”.
Fue el maestro Benedetti el que dijo: ‘Nadie nos advirtió que extrañar; es el costo que tienen los buenos momentos’.
Pues así me encuentro yo, pagando un precio muy alto de tantos buenos recuerdos que guardo de ti.
Desde el momento en que te conocí, en ese despacho con gente tan diferente los unos de los otros, conectamos en seguida.
Hay gente que con una mirada basta para que pensemos: Este es de los míos…. Al ver en su expresión esa pizca de locura que compartimos y que nos hace cómplices ipso-facto.
El resto, quedará para siempre en nuestras memorias, en nuestras carpetas de ‘recuerdos bonitos’ ‘recuerdos de risa’ y otras tantas que nos ayudan a seguir adelante en este mundo que a menudo se hace demasiado de todo.
Me niego a hablar de ti en pasado, porque sé que estás muy presente.
Que no sepamos algo, no quiere decir que no exista. ¡Ay la humanidad, que poca humildad!!....
Y yo estoy segura de que estás en ese lugar privilegiado, guardado para la gente que te hace reír, que quita importancia a las tonterías que a menudo nos atormentan y que con una mirada nos dan paz. Así eres tú; amigo Mervyn.
Espérame.
Que llego en lo que en la eternidad se conoce como un instante. Y nos tomamos otra cervecita fresca. Do it!

Merv, it was a long long time ago but I always look back fondly to our weekend in Madrid. Asking for 4 more beers in a very poor Spanish accent.
Then in Dublin about 13years a go.
Big gaps in our history but You will be sadly missed pal. I raised a couple of Coronas (oh the irony in these COVID times. I reckon you would have laughed at that) with some very close friends a few weeks ago and toasted your life!
Rest in peace my friend. Steve.

Merv, parece que escondiste tu tristeza interna y la transformaste en bondad, por que eres de las mejores personas que he conocido, de esas personas a las que coges un cariño especial. Espero haber contribuido a alguna de tus sonrisas, porque tú sí lo hiciste a las mías. Dejas “Swingeing Lahndahn” un poco huérfano (sobre todo las discusiones en inglés ininteligible sobre música con Alvar), pero te recordamos y recordaremos en cada momento. Gracias por dejarnos parte de ti en tus canciones y Y como dice Mechanismo “spread your wings and start again, let you begin”. Te queremos mucho y siempre estaremos contigo. ❤️

Aún no puedo creer que ya no estés. A pesar de este tiempo sin verte nunca he dejado de sentir que no conoceré en esta vida a mucha gente tan especial y buena como tú. Gracias por todo lo que me dejaste compartir contigo, gracias por compartir conmigo tu amor por la música, por Dublín, por la vida... por confiar en mí para tu música. Y, sobre todo, gracias por enseñarme que hay personas que, a pesar del tiempo, quedan en tu corazón para siempre. Siempre te echaré de menos. Merv❤️

I have fond memories of Merv, although it has been quite a number of years since I last saw him.
He was such a lovely, sweet and humble person who was gentle and kind.

It´s been two weeks already, but the sound of your laughter in my head is still as strong as ever...You are one of the most brilliant, talented, kind, funny, authentic and freaking patient human beings I have ever known. You have always been and always will be in my heart...It's impossible to say goodbye to you, I refuse to do so. And I don't need to, I will listen to your songs as if you are still just down the road at Campo Amor, I will still hear your voice giving me advice or mocking me, I will share over and over again all the memories about you with all the people that knew you and hang on to every bit of new memory I can hear from them. And deep down I know nothing will be able to fill the emptiness you left but I am lucky to say that I knew someone who was able to leave such a big hole in my heart. I love you. I miss you. Little bottle on the computer, long hugs and all that shit. You will always be my Merv The Star, Mervie, Mrvica ❤❤❤
