Biografía

Janine Brooks was a vibrant woman with many interests. One of her greatest passions was the study of English. She was an avid member and leader of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta. She also took great pride in her work for the Chemistry Department at University of Nebraska -Omaha. When not focused on school or her work, Janine advocated for change in the state of Nebraska when it comes to the care of children with profound mental illness; she also soap-boxed for adults-with-autism to receive services that would allow for them to live independently in the state. Janine enjoyed spending time with her pet chihuahua, Morgan le Fay, and raising chickens.

Janine helped start the Science Fiction Club at Horace Mann School (Now King Science Center) way back in 1982. She always had a kind heart and kind words.

It’s hard to imagine this world without Janine’s spirit and energy. Her commitment to UNO and students was always present. I learned so much from Janine.

Janine was one of the kindest people I have ever met. She was always so giving to the community, and the things that she was passionate about. She would give you the shirt off her back. Her laugh was infectious, and her smile lit up the room. I don't know of anyone who kept themselves as busy as she did. She was such an inspiration to me, that she always found time for others and giving back. She cared deeply about her family and her relationships, and of course, her animals. There will definitely be a void in this world without her in it, as she was a light that shined so brightly. I feel so blessed to have met her, and to have been able to call her my friend. She was certainly taken too soon but, at least she was out there doing things she was passionate about, and making a difference in the world. I will forever miss her......

Janine was at every Sigma Tau Delta convention as long as I can recall. She was always so enthusiastic about participating, and greeting people, and giving and getting the most out of the convention. I have so many fun and funny and sweet memories of hanging out with Janine. She was such a kind and thoughtful person, always making sure everyone around her was included. Her enthusiasm was infectious. She was also a very loving and caring person who is going to be missed by all of us, and by her family and friends at home. So sad.

I met Janine when I came to my first Sigma Tau Delta convention. She was friendly and made me feel more comfortable at the convention. I would only see her at conventions, but seeing her facebook posts were some of the highlights of my weeks.

I had the opportunity to meet Janine at the 2018 NE ASD Network Conference in Omaha. I had the chance to go to her presentation as well and she did a great job. I was so honored to meet this special autism self advocate and a chance to learn more about her since that conference. She cared a lot about her family whether it was her family or the chickens that became a part of her family. Janine was someone that I would look up to for advice a few times that I needed it. The autism community will miss her dearly and my thoughts and prayers are with her family on this tragic loss. May she Rest In Peace!

Janine, such a beautiful women on the inside and out. Your friendship will be missed. The passion you had for everything you loved was so joyful to watch. I am so sad, you still had so much to offer this world. Rest in peace my friend. May your legacy live on.

This can't be real; I JUST SAW your pictures and awards from the Serama competition in Illinois!
Janine didn't just "raise chickens;" she loved them. They were support animals and certainly not "just" at all. They were award-winning, and if you knew Janine, you at least knew of Bob Seger, her rooster.
She is already missed.
