Brian, Chris and Beth, so sorry to hear about your mom. My fondest memory of your mom was her getting me to try pea soup. I was reluctant (6 or 7 years old at the time), but it was delicious and remains one of my favorites. Sorry we haven't remained in touch all these years. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Brian, Chris and Beth, my heart goes out to you all. My deepest condolences to you. Your mother was an incredibly special person! You all played such a big part in our lives growing up. Know that she and your dad live on in all of you and all you do! Love you all. Love, Laurel!

This was shared by Karen Brady: Mrs Pardo was part of my life since I was 10 years old. I was friends with her daughters, Chris and Beth and I was ALWAYS welcome in their home. I remember waiting for the bus with Chris and watching the family eat their very well balanced breakfasts served by Mrs.Pardo. She always wore skirts and she was tall and friendly. She would sway in and out between her loved ones depositing an egg here, some toast there but I always remember the vitally important canned fruit. I don't think I ever saw her eat. I spent a great deal of time in the Pardo's neat and comfortable home, hiding and playing everywhere. It was no problem that I hid under beds and in closets for hide and seek, even in the master bedroom. Screaming and running around breathless in the Pardo yard in darkness was also no problem. There was no television but often music-classical or songs from broadway plays. The Pardos were generous people and very kind. I knew somehow that Mrs.Pardo was involved with charity work to help the poor but she didn't just write checks and go to meetings; she visited people and knew them, especially migrant farm workers. There was a big fire once where these people lived, they were frightened and traumatized and Winnie Pardo was there with them with food and clothes. This deeply affected my life and made me aware of the poor people who mysteriously lived in little pockets of neighborhoods unknown to me or farm roads off of Sound avenue. I learned Spanish and began copying her after college. I know she did a lot of wonderful things for Shoreham Wading River Schools also, WHILE cooking, cleaning and providing clean clothes to 5 people. She had a way of smiling while shifting her eyes sideways at her husband. She laughed often, She was a wonderful, inspiring woman and I loved her. She will always be a part of my good memories.

Dear Brian, Chris, Beth and family, Please accept our condolences on the loss of your beloved Winnie. We hope her passing was gentle and without suffering. Surely a bright light has been extinguished with her passing, for that is how we will always remember her, along with dear Gonzi. With love, and deepest sympathy, Mickie & Bill Tinkler
