My condolences to all four of you on the loss of your Dad. May your memories of good times together comfort you.

Rest easy, Grandpa. I’m grateful we were able to spend some quality time together last year in Canada 🇨🇦. Even though I grew up on the other side of the world, you always made the effort to stay connected — through Skype, messages, and your signature quirky emails. I’ll miss those, as I’m sure the rest of the family will!! You’ve left behind four children and eight grandchildren who you were always proud of — and we’ll keep carrying your memory with us. Sean

Growing up Grandpa Paul was a very funny, and interesting individual. Someone who would not even think twice to help me with history homework, or school projects. Very grateful that I was able to see him, and stay in touch as often as I could. I am forever going to miss his line of emojis on my phone every morning 🐻🥴👍🌻🦋💕 I hope his adventure up there is even more fulfilling and fun. Rest easy Grandpa ♥️ Esmeray

Thank you Dad for giving your children a drive to be the best they can. Thanks for the good times as well. I remember being captivated by your writing, talking about airplanes, love of history, Star Trek, hunting, and skills at model building. You took me to Air Cadets and were proud when I flew a glider by myself when I was sixteen. These are aspects of my own interests and passions today. The Rich Valley boy, who has had his own struggles, made it to Oxford. It was lovely. I think you would have smiled. Rest in the arms of Jesus. You are missed.

Even though growing up in a country on the other side of the world made forming a close relationship with my Grampa more difficult, I will remember Paul as quirky, smart and a huge lover of emojis! 🐻 🇨🇦 🦫 🌈 🐿️ 💕 One song that I sometimes will play which always makes me think of Paul is Adiemus by Karl Jenkins. I have a vivid memory when I was a little girl of Grampa emailing me the YouTube link to this song saying how beautiful the voice was, and for some reason it stuck. I still listen to it sometimes, as it is a beautiful song, like nothing else I’ve ever heard in fact. I hope the angels are singing it to him where he is now ❤️

Paul, as I knew him, was a complex and multilayered person. But having him for a father-in-law meant that I always had an ally, not an antagonist. This is because he only ever wanted the best for his children and their respective partners and spouses. Life, as it does, took us in different directions metaphorically and geographically but his interest in the lives of his kids and grandkids never wavered. I could count on getting emails for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Canada Day and even Halloween with some jokes, kind thoughts and well-wishes. And never without a beaver, goose, moose or bear in there somewhere. He's on to a greater journey now, rejoining those who have gone before. Farewell, safe travels, and thank you.
