Mémorial

Matthew M. Chavez passed away suddenly November 18, 2015 in Santa Fe, NM. Matthew was born January 5, 1966 in Santa Fe, NM and a lifelong resident here. Matthew proudly served in the military and later owned and operated El Paseo Bar and Grill and was very close to his fellow workers that he considered like family. He is survived by four brothers; Don Chavez (Geraldine), Robert Chavez, Ted Chavez and Larry Chavez, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Epifanio C. and Rose B. Chavez, sisters Patricia Chavez, Vicky Chavez, Trudy Perez (Melvin) and Mary Jo Chavez. Matthew will be missed by all that came to know him. A Rosary will be recited Monday November 30, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Reception to follow at Saint Anne’s Parish Hall. The Family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Adelante Youth Programs and/or the Carmelite Sisters.

Munro Family

Dear Chavez Family, I am so terribly sorry for your great loss of Matthew, my deepest sympathies. It is extremely difficult to cope with the pain of such a loss. It seems very unnatural to lose loved ones the way we do. Something that has personally helped me cope with the loss of a loved one is Psalm 34:17, 18 and Isaiah 25:8. Knowing God is near to those broken at heart, he has a purpose in play to swallow up death forever, that he holds them in his memory and will resurrect our loved ones helps me greatly. Whenever overwhelmed with grief I reflected on these verses and found great comfort, may they bring you comfort too.
