Fury from the Sky
On Friday, December 24, 2021, Iain Kirby Pitman passed away at the Michael E DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. He was 47 years old.
Iain was born in 1974 at Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX to Ann and Kirby Pitman. He joined the US Army in 1994 and proudly served as a “Red Devil” in the 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Iain was injured during a combat training exercise and was eventually medically discharged from the Army in 1996.
Iain was a proud Army veteran, and he was a loving son, brother, and uncle. After the military, he worked for many years as an IT professional with many achievements and certifications. He was a lover of film and television, and he was a trivia wizard. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, his somewhat frenetic personality, his pride in his Scottish heritage, and his endless generosity.
Iain is survived by his parents, Ann & Hank Litchfield, and Kirby & Cleo Pitman, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Walker & Kelly Pitman, and Stuart & Brandi Pitman, his two nieces, Scotlyn & Paisley, and his extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, along with many great friends.
Iain’s ashes will be placed in the columbarium at the Houston National Cemetery on Feb 25 at 2:15pm (event details here: https://www.mykeeper.com/event/iains-funeral-service), and a Celebration of Life Service will follow from 3-6pm at VFW Post 8905, 21902 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77429. Food and wine/spirits will be provided, or beer can be purchased on site (event details here: https://www.mykeeper.com/event/celebration-of-life142)
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Charitable Services Trust (https://cst.dav.org/) or their favorite charity in Iain’s name.

Dave Ayling
First, I would like to give my condolences to your family. Coming across this sad news was not the way that I wanted to try to reach out to you all. My name is Dave Ayling. I grew up in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia while you guys lived there. Over the last several years I have been trying to find and reconnect with folks that had an impact on me during those years. I remember all the times that our families ate at USMTM and I enjoyed our times that we got to hangout. Stuart, you gave me the gift of "new music". You also gave me my first Powell Peralta Caballero skateboard. I remember being involved with scouts and that your father Kirby and your mom Ann were friends with my parents. Iain was a couple years older than me and Stuart, you were a year older. I looked up to both of you though. Both of you guys as well as your parents were very nice to me and I have never forgotten that. Over the years I have been slowly reconnecting with those of you who I grew up around and from time to time I have tried to find you guys. Stuart, and to your family as well, I am so very sorry to hear of this loss. I know that there are some photos in boxes out in my garage from Saudi Arabia of you all and a few of us at USMTM, as well as some at some scout events. I will get out in the garage and find them. I recall you telling me once maybe 15 years ago or so that you come up to Tacoma, WA on occasion. It would be good to see you. There are a few of us SAIS-R folks in Seattle in our age group and we were just recently talking about you both. If you find your way up here sometime it would be nice to see you. I also seem to recall you telling me that you lived in Katy, TX. I will be down there after the new year in the Houston area and I would be happy to drive over to meetup with you. I am so very sorry to hear this about Iain and you have my most sincere condolences and to your family as well. My email is dayling@costco.com if you would like to reconnect sometime. I have tried to find you guys on Facebook over the years but I can't seem to find you. Please reach out though as I would really enjoy getting to talk to you again :)
