Edgar Lee Callihan (1953-2020)
Eddie, fond of telling folks “the grounds still under me” when answering the question how are you, changed his answer Sunday, May 3, 2020.
Fast Eddie in his youth to old & reliable, Eddie was known for his sense of humor and heart of gold; everyone knew you could “just call Ed” for help. Eddie loved his Harley Road King, the Browns, (winning) Euchre, music, (winning) horseshoes, golf, hunting, fishing, his yard, birds, and watching nature. He hated geese and chipmunks.
He served in the Navy (Vietnam Vet), retired from Praxair in 2019 and was a Teamster and Union Steward, proud to advocate on behalf of his fellow drivers. As a last act of service, Ed donated his body to NEOMED.
He joins his parents, William Callihan and Jean Engle, brother, Bill (Sue) Callihan, father and mother-in law, James and Jane Ohlinger, brother in-law, Martin (Kim) Kretzman, and sister-in-law, Ann (Tom) Bizzaro, who preceded him in death.
Ed leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 45 years Peggy Lee, his children, Adrienne Lee (Jason Lee) Blackburn, Joshua Lee (Emily), and Jaime Lee (Sam) Topper, sister, Kim Kretzman, sister-in-law, Sue Callihan, brothers-in-law, Tom Bizzaro, Mark (Judy) Ohlinger, Jim (Wanda) Ohlinger, grandchildren, Madelyn, Abigail, Alex, Aidan, Cody, Nicole, and Joshua Jr., daughter of his heart Melissa (Rick) Haddix, sons of his heart, Adam and Jon Callihan, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ever the worrywart, Ed would have worried about the health and safety of his loved ones gathering during these uncertain times. We invite you to share memories and pictures of Ed at www.mykeeper.com/profile/EdCallihan/.
Eddie was an anomaly; he deviated from what is standard, normal, or expected and those of us that love him are thankful for that.
A celebration of life gathering will be planned for late summer. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Ohio Veteran Memorial Park (www.ovmp.org) or The Fisher House (www.fisherhouse.org).

Peggy, I am so sorry to hear about Ed. May God bless you and hold you up in your time of need. May God comfort your children as well.

How blessed I was to be the only girl between my two amazing brothers, Ed and Bill. And now I have the blessed assurance that because Ed, like Bill, knew Jesus, and Jesus knew them, they are healthy and happy in heaven with mom and other family and friends. I've so many stories and memories to share -- some that make me laugh until I cry; others just cause tears. But right now, I just can't. My heart is breaking, and I have no closure. That I blame on COVID 19 that prevents many of our family and friends from gathering together to remember Ed and to celebrate his life. The last time I got to see Ed, Peg had alerted Kris and me that he was feeling down that day. When she walked in, she noted her surprise to a see a big smile on his face. Ed replied, "my sister makes me laugh!" Well, Ed can longer exclaim "I'm still above the ground" when asked how he is doing; but I say, no he isn't. He is soaring far above it in his heavenly home! In loving memory of my beloved brother, Ed , and thanks to Peg and the girls for their loving care for him. Sis

Your dad was an amazing person. When I lost my dad I remember standing at his calling hours. There were many people there that all brought me comfort, but when your dad hugged me, in that small moment in time, I felt safe, loved, and an overwhelming sense of peace. He always made me feel welcome and his sincerity and genuine spirit were a blessing to so many. Although your lives are forever changed, don’t ever forget how much he absolutely loved each of you. You will find so much comfort in that in the days and months ahead. I am here for all of you and send you all the love and hugs. Amanda Coyle

This isn't easy to write! You were very much another father figure that I so badly needed. You were such a wonderful example as a father, husband and friend!! I can't begin to explain how much positivity you and Peggy brought into my life. Being, at The Callihan home on the weekends was definitely we're many of my best memories. Many times, we got in trouble and we needed it but I always felt safe there. I'm so thankful, to have all the memories! Peggy, Adrienne, Josh, Jaime & Family~ My heart breaks for y'all but you are all very blessed to have each and every wonderful memory. You will be in our prayers and hearts in the upcoming weeks and months. Love you all, Jamie Brown

I have known Ed since High School and he changed my life in many aspects. Without Ed & Peg I would never had met my wife Judy. Ed and I joined Bob Engle at Akro-Tec, and this started me on my career in Electrical Manufacturing. We have had many great times with Ed & Peg from motorcycle rides, dining out, or just hanging at the club. I have attached the only known photo of Ed wearing the dreaded Steelers jacket. We had been riding and it had gotten cold that night. This was my extra jacket that he took to get home with some warmth. We will miss my friend and brother and as he said, “I will see you on the other side.”

Rest in peace and glory my friend. I was blessed to have Ed as my friend for almost 50 years. He was funny, compassionate, loyal, protective and most kind. My heart breaks for Peggy, Adrienne, Josh and Jamie and all Ed's family and friends. I thank God his suffering has ended. Heaven got a special angel. Till we meet again, I will cherish many happy memories.
