I met Suzanne 67 years ago, when I was two years old. Our families had moved in next door to each other in Falls Church and that was the beginning of a life-long friendship that continued after the Watts moved to McLean about four years later. Some of my earliest memories are of Suzanne and my mother taking me, Cam and George (Bill at the time) downtown on sightseeing excursions in an attempt to instill some culture in us, she was ever the educator. On one of these excursions we ran out of gas on Spout Run. Suzanne stuck out her thumb and hitchhiked to the nearest gas station. I can still see her coming back in a pickup truck with a gas can in her hand. She always knew how to get things done! We spent many happy hours together after the Watts moved to McLean. Suzanne and George couldn't have been better, more generous friends, they were like my family. After my father died, nobody did more for us. They had us over every weekend for dinner and on holidays. I always felt that Suzanne was my special supporter and advocate. Suzanne could do everything well. Her needlework was beautiful, she created such lovely, intricate rugs and bargello masterpieces. She was a wonderful cook and her recipes are legendary. You had to be sure to follow the instructions exactly or she would know when she tasted it and not be pleased. When I called a friend to tell him about her passing he expressed his sympathy and said that they were making Mrs. Watts' apple pie for Thanksgiving as they did every year. She was always so much fun to be with. She had a great sense of humor and everytime we were together we giggled and laughed about something funny. Once when I had taken her to a doctor's appointment we were completing the intake forms and we got to the section on pregnancies, she got a twinkle in her eye and said "let's put down that I'm pregnant!" She was in her early nineties at the time. Suzanne was a great joy and blessing in my life. I loved her very much. I will miss her. Jean Peterson Silverwood

Since learning of Suzanne's death, we have been reminiscing about all the great times we spent with her, whether it was a cruise or visit to her condo in McLean. Suzanne was always open and eager to try a new adventure. Some of our favorite times were when Suzanne and Shelia visited us at our home in North Carolina. We had a pontoon paddle boat that we called Yachtzie and Suzanne and Shelia would paddle across the lake and back. Suzanne loved that she could still paddle across the lake while in her nineties. See the pictures. We are grateful that we have so many memories of the time we spent with her. She was a remarkable woman and she will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her. Growing up, when I thought of success, I always thought of Suzanne and George. They together, and alone lived incredibly full lives. Suzanne was like a grandmother to me, especially since I didn't get to know either of my grandmothers very well. Too many fond memories to recount, but my favorite trip with Suzanne was to South Africa. I will always remember her on the jeep during the game rides smiling, and chatting with our rangers (guides). My family and I will truly miss her. My deepest condolences to the Watts, and Cowne families. Thanks again for the wonderful memorial service. Love, Brian, Kristine, Sebastian, and Isla Fletcher P.S. She did make the best lemon bars, and mash potatoes. If someone has either recipe (I believe my mom might), please pass them along.

This memorial is posted on behalf of Joan Wardwell: SUZANNE ENRICHED MANY LIVES Suzanne came into my life as a neighbor in 2006. She left as family in 2020. I remember one Thanksgiving where she asked everyone around the table what they were thankful for. My answer was "YOU". Suzanne made my life better in so many ways. Including me in holidays with her family and the Fletchers. Arranging to be by my side for several surgeries and designating Sheila as the driver. All without being asked. Travel outings with Jettie. To her family and extended family, I want to thank you for sharing her with me. Suzanne will be missed by all who knew her.
