As long as we live, they too shall live-for they are a part of us, as we remember them.
Steven Mark Nevens
December 23, 2024 | Naches, Washington
Steven Mark Nevens passed away at his home in Naches, Washington on December 23, 2024 just a few days shy of his 71st birthday. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and community servant whose life was marked by dedication, compassion, and service.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Steve was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 20 where he served honorably as an Army Special Forces De-coder, stationed in Augsburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged with the ranking of SP5 which is equivalent to a Sergeant. After his military service, he began a long and fulfilling career as a Marine Contractor with PCG, retiring in 2008.
Following his retirement, Steve relocated permanently to the Naches area, where he became a vital part of the community. He volunteered with the local fire department and played a key role in the planning and construction of the new Nile-Cliffdell Fire Station as project manager. His commitment and leadership saw him rise through the ranks from Firefighter/EMT to Captain, and ultimately, Chief of the department.
Steve’s dedication to service extended beyond the firehouse. He was actively involved in the community through the Lions Club, Neighborhood Watch, and was even made an Honorary member of the Nile Women’s Club. A passionate supporter of conservation, he was a proud lifetime member and contributor of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
He is survived by his little sister Jo-Anne, his two sons and six beloved grandchildren, and his loving wife Sara. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Bob. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—through his service, kindness, generosity and unwavering commitment to those around him.
Steve was loved and adored by many people and in the time he lived here he made so many friends that truly became his family. On June 3, 2023 he married his long time friend and “Shatzi”, Sara. They lived a very happy life full of travel and adventures. Steve and Sara often said that they each married their best friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Nile-Cliffdell Fire Association.
