Maria "Mery" Samec

Maria “Mery” Samec, 98, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2021 in Cranston, RI.  Born in Trieste, Italy on May 21,1922, she was raised with her late siblings, Giuseppe, Lidia, Giordano, and Marcella. She moved permanently to the States in 2011. She found joy in cooking, knitting, sewing and gardening. 

Everybody that knew her called her Nonna, perhaps because she treated everyone she knew like family. She spread happiness singing Italian songs which she taught to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Even in her last days, she sang and spoke of dancing and Italian food.  

She is survived by her daughter Daniela Rihani (Ghaleb), grandchildren: Bassel Rihani (Stephanie), Fares Rihani (Shawna), Rawan Rihani Colwell (Zac), and Sabrina Garibian (Antranig), and her eight great grandchildren: Raffi, Nevaeh, Alessandra, Savannah, Valentina, Leila, Daniela, Isabella and one more on the way.

She is now reunited with her sisters, brothers, parents and her daughter Alessandra (Rihani) in Heaven. Her light lives on in her kin and in her remarkable anecdotes of her long life. Our memories of her will remain in our hearts forever.
