In loving memory of Lawrence (Larry) Counts. He passed on Nov. 3 at the age of 85. Larry attended UC Berkeley for college and law school. While he was awaiting his bar exam results and waiting tables for work, he met Vivian as a college student there. His immediate family includes Vivian, his wife of 59 years, children, Karen and Richard daughter-in-law Lorena and two grand children, Sammy and Lucas. Professionally, Larry served as the Assistant chief counsel/tax attorney for the California Franchise Tax Board for 30 +years. Larry had a passion for gardening and cooking, music and movies. He and Vivian enjoyed many travels.

I am sorry to learn of Larry's passing. He was a very good friend to my parents, Emil and Eleanor Bernstein. He did so many kind favors for them. Including selling Emil's car when Emil developed dementia and could no longer drive. He continued to visit them even when they moved to a senior living place in Fremont. The world could use more kind and generous people like Larry. I am attaching a photo of Larry with my mother Eleanor from 2011.

I have so many good memories of trips to Sacramento and Thanksgivings when Larry and Vivian would come to visit. Larry was always a person of logic and reason, as well as a compassionate and caring person. I’m so thankful that Taylor and I were able to visit in May. I will miss our weekly texting!

Sadden to learn of Larry’s passing. He served the State of California well during his long career at the FTB. I was fortunate to have him as a mentor and boss for several years. He definitely shaped me and many others as tax professionals.

I was sad to see the news about Larry's passing. He was a good mentor to me at the CA Franchise Tax Board, and I have many good memories of his twinkling eyes and sense of humor. Condolences to his family, and may Larry enjoy a speedy journey to his next meeting!

I’m very saddened to hear about Larry’s passing. I always enjoyed just sitting and visiting with him. He was a very good man.

Larry was a good friend - at work, at the Jazz Festival, and at our monthly old-timers retiree luncheons. He always had sound advice and offered plenty of praise and support. Larry, thanks for being a friend.
