David Kent Nelson

My wife, Mary, and I always hooked up with Dave at the USFS Reunions where he shared his sage advice and opinions about various speakers. We always agreed. During the former Chief's speech at the last Reunion, Dave leaned toward my wife and whispered "Had enough yet?" We all felt the same so we left to get a drink. Professionally, my last great experience with Dave was on the Marble Cone Fire where he was the IC and I was Plans Chief and Ops Chief backup if our primary "went down." Dave was a great Leader, and if anything, and I mean anything, wasn't going according to his direction, he got on the radio and straightened it out "quicker than quick!" I wished I had more fires to work with Dave, but in the end we just swapped "old war stories" and laughed out asses off. God's speed, Dave. Stub
