Souvenirs

Beverly Ann (Wolfe) Braasch was born in Milwaukee, WI to Merle Rodney Wolfe and Eunice Louise (Reindl) Wolfe on February 1, 1949. As a baby she was a joy, sleeping through her first night home from the hospital. Her mom nicknamed her Bevvydear and called her that her whole life. An adorable child with her blonde curls and green eyes, she was raised in the house her dad built on 92 nd Street with her four sisters, Dolores, Diane, Marilyn, and Janet. The five girls were loving and supporting of each other throughout their lives and enjoyed being together whenever possible. Beverly met Marty Braasch on a blind date in high school and got married in 1968. She graduated from UWM in 1973 with a BS in medical technology and worked in labs at Columbia Hospital and New Berlin Memorial Hospital until her son Ryan was born in 1978. After Ryan's birth, Bev went back to lab work for a short time, then switched to real estate sales. She gave up her career to devote herself fully to her family, including dogs Holly and Dandy, after Andy was born in 1982. As her boys got older, Beverly was generous with her time for those she could help. She was treasurer at her sons' schools for five years and taught kids about nature as assistant den leader for Cub Scouts. She gave first aid and care to students as health room volunteer from 1984-1993; she volunteered at the recycling center and the dog training club; she raised Chloe's puppies for Leader Dogs for the Blind; and she took her dog Kiba on nursing home visits as a therapy dog. Her dog Rocky didn't do any volunteering, but like all of Bev's dogs, he was allowed free reign of the house including couches and beds. Bev also enjoyed photography, reading, racquetball, and visiting Door County during those years. After Beverly and Marty divorced in 1993, Beverly started her own small business, "Stellar Stencil," doing decorative interior painting including the stenciled chickadees around the fireplace at the house on Wildflower Ct. She continued to work and volunteer at school as teacher's aide and library assistant even after her sons graduated. She became involved at Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church where she had a great community of friends who loved her. She continued to volunteer a great deal of her time helping refugees practice English, helping poor people prepare taxes, at church, at the animal shelter, and no doubt in many ways we don't even know about. And of course, she gave refuge to several rescue dogs. She enjoyed regular lunches and vacations with her friends, was a formidable scrabble player, and pursued her Ebay side-business with abandon. She loved visiting her grandkids Halle and Warren in Panama, where she enjoyed the beaches and flowers and birds. In September of 2020, Beverly suffered a heart attack, and complications during bypass surgery left her unable to walk. Just as she was getting back on her feet, she suffered a stroke in March of 2021. She succumbed to her illness on December 4, 2021. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, sister Marilyn Knackert, and sister Diane Wolfe. She is survived by her sons Ryan Braasch and Andy Braasch; her grandchildren Halle and Warren Alonso; her sisters Dolores Hansen Nelson and Janet Nuszbaum; her boyfriend Alfred Wyremski; as well as many, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Beverly opened her home and heart to a long line of lucky dogs, Holly, Dandy, Kiba, Rocky, Chloe, Vicki, Dakota, Baylee, and Marla. Baylee's home is now with Andy, and Marla's home is with Al. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Beverly's memory with a donation to a charity that was important to her. She had dozens of charities she liked to patronize, but her "favorites" were Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS), The Nature Conservancy, Lake Country Unitarian Universalist Church, Hebron Housing Services, and public radio and television (NPR/PBS).

Our precious Aunty Bev was one of my favorites! My favorite childhood memories with her were spent at the lake house with my kooky cousins Ryan and Andy as well as other Wolfe family members! My cousins undoubtedly got their goofy personalities from their Mom! My last memory of her was when she came to visit my Mom (her sister Diane) with cousin Andy. She would always call me to get updates on my Mom and I always looked forward to our chats! My silly memory of her is how she hated letting other people clean up her kitchen after she hosted a meal for us. My Mom always loved to hear Bev's sympathetic "poor baby" (...a specific way she said it that my Mom would often recite.) when she shared a sympathetic story with her. Her delightful smile, song bursts, and infectious giggle will be wholeheartedly missed by all whose lives she touched! What a beautiful soul to have graced this earth and bring such joy, warmth, and love to all of us; humans and doggies! We are all so lucky to have known and loved her! Rest in love and peace Aunty Bev!

I have fond memories with Aunt Bev staying at her house with cousins Ryan and Andy in Dousman watching her raise lab puppies for the blind, swimming in her pool, family reunions, and much more! I remember scrabble nights with her when my Mom would visit, with her yummy treats (her grape, almond broccoli salad was my fav!) and always a house full of dogs! She was such a nature and animal lover! She volunteered her time and talents that helped so many! She loved her boys and was a wonderful Grandma to son Ryan's stepchildren! She babysat for my son and even employed him to mow her lawn! She was a wonderful Aunt, sister, mother, daughter and friend to many and is loved and missed by all those whose lives she touched. RIP Aunt Bev! We love you!

One of my favorite memories of my mom is when she traveled with me and Ryan to Mexico in 2003 for Christmas and New Year's. I had studied in Oaxaca the previous summer and was excited to show my mom and brother around town. I had met Daniela, who together with her family welcomed us to all of their holiday celebrations. I love the picture of my mom making funny faces with the kid on the street. She didn't speak the language, but that didn't stop her from talking to them, joking with them, and making friends with them. She had such an nice way about her where she could connect with people that easily, and she loved children. I don't remember my mom ever being happier than on this trip, on an adventure with her sons, despite having anxiety about flying and missing the comforts of home. She even ended up having to go to the dentist in Mexico on Christmas day to get a root canal, but she laughed it off as part of the adventure - or at least she eventually did. She didn't like many pictures of herself, but seeing how natural and easy her beautiful smile is in these photos, I think she must have liked these. The highlight of the trip was New Year's Eve, when Daniela's family drove us to a fun beach town called Puerto Escondido. We had delicious food and drinks, enjoyed the warm beach breeze, and were happy to be together somewhere happy and fun. When the year changed from 2003 to 2004, we were dancing on the beach, bare feet in the sand, listening to a live reggae band. It was such a wonderful celebration. This is how I remember my mom, smiling and happy, loving life, and loving being together with her sons.

Apparently my mom really loved Halloween! That first one has a caption on the back, "Omar, and Kiba the harem girl"

My first memory of Bev was her sitting in my chair at the salon as I cut her hair. I remember she was easy to talk to and we immediately hit it off. As the months and years went by our friendship continued to grow. We talked about everything from raising our kids, ( I can still see her in my mind 8 months pregnant with Andy wearing a brown overall outfit in my mind. She was so cute) discipling our dogs, gardening, politics, religion, you name it we discussed it. Nothing was off topic. Even when we disagreed on a topic she was always kind and never condescending. I was always in awe of how smart she was and how much she knew about alot of different things. I learned a lot from Bev over the years. I looked at Bev as a dear friend and not a customer. She was a true friend to me in so many ways. We laughed together and cried together. I miss her terribly. Thank you Bev for sitting in my chair all those years ago. My life was changed with you in it. Till we meet again 😘
