Stella Chau

Stella Chau passed away in Toronto, Ontario on October 13, 2026, at the age of 88.

 

Born: Bombay, India (June 13, 1938)

Children:  Richard, Dennison, and Julie (Steve)

Siblings: Sandra and William (Josphine)

Family: Survived by grandchildren Danielle (Josh) and Casey (Kassie)

 

Life & Legacy

 

Stella was known for dedication to her family, she worked hard to provide the best life for us as kids.  Born in Bombay, India, moved to Hong Kong in her 20's and then imigrated to Canada, were she became a hairdresser for 4 years and then found her love for sewing. She worked from home raising 3 kids and sewing doll clothes for The "Toy Laundry" line which featured minature doll clothes for a manufacturer named Reliable Toy Company which was based at 260 Carlaw Avenue in Toronto's East End.  She sewed for one of the largest toy factories in the British Empire for many years until 1985 when the company was bought out. She then was hired by the The Richmond Group located in the fashion district in Toronto along Spadina Ave.  There she continued her love of sewing, not for dolls but for soon to be brides, she was sewing wedding gowns, veils and garter belts until she retired in her mid-50's.  Stella loved playing cards, game of hearts, matching game and solitare with her kids each night, it was cards and a piece of cheese before bed.   She also was really good at playing 5 rocks.

In her retired years she cared for her mom who passed at the age of 85 and enjoyed more time watching reruns of I love Lucy, Happy Days, Gilligan's Island, Knight Rider and even Bay Watch.

 

Stella will be missed by all that came to know her.   She accepted everyone and her phrase in life was "it doesn't matter" meaning life is too short so don't worry about the little stuff.
