Honouring Our Fallen Heroes: A Legacy of Courage and Care

With profound sorrow, we remember the extraordinary individuals whose lives were tragically cut short in the line of duty on Thursday, 7 August 2025, in the tragic crash of an AMREF Flying Doctors air ambulance. In the aftermath of this devastating accident, which claimed the lives of four cherished colleagues and two innocent members of the Mwihoko community, we come together in solemn tribute to honour their memory.

Our dedicated pilot and co-pilot on a Flying Doctors mission, Captain Muthuka Munuve and Captain Brian Kimani, whose courage took flight not only in the skies but in the hearts of those they served. Every mission they flew was a testament to their selflessness, professionalism, and unwavering belief in the power of care, which reached even the most remote corners.

Our extraordinary caregivers, Dr Charles Njoroge and Nurse Jane Omusula, who, in their final moments, were doing what they had always done: placing the lives of others above their own. Their compassion and steadfast commitment to healing knew no boundaries, neither of geography nor personal safety.

They answered the call to serve in the most critical of circumstances, and in doing so, made the ultimate sacrifice.

The tragedy of their passing is felt deeply across our organisation and far beyond. Yet even in grief, we find strength in their legacy—a legacy of courage, compassion, and profound humanity.

We also extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the two community members from Mwihoko whose lives were so tragically cut short. Their loss is a solemn reminder of the risks borne by those who choose to serve. But it is also a powerful legacy, one of bravery, humility, and service. We honour our friends and colleagues not just for the lives they saved, but for the lives they lived, with purpose, grace, and dedication. May their memory continue to inspire us, and may they rest in eternal peace, knowing their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
