Our caring, compassionate Zach
Zachary Alan Windle
August 29, 1990– April 15, 2025
Our beloved Zachary was a kind, compassionate soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. From an early age, he demonstrated an incredible strength—bravely battling cancer as a baby and enduring surgery, chemotherapy and radiation with the spirit of a true fighter. Though his journey continued to bring challenges, Zach never gave up. He faced life’s hardships with resilience, finding comfort in the love of his close friends, family, and his deep connection to music. Zach had amazing artistic abilities, and we will hold tightly to the drawings and sketches left behind that showed his creativity and talent.
Zach had a heart as big as his laugh, both of which left a lasting impression on those around him. Zach had a sense of humor that we will all miss dearly. He had a way of making others laugh without even trying. He adored babies and animals, and he fiercely loved his people. Even when crowds felt overwhelming, Zach would still find his way to each person, offering his signature warm hugs and always saying “I love you.” He worried about others more than himself, always making sure friends got home safely and checking in with thoughtful texts.
Our lives are forever changed by his absence, but we take solace in knowing that Zach is now at peace—free from pain, free from struggle, and made whole again in a place of perfect peace. We will carry his memory in our hearts, always.
Zach is survived by his parents, Nick Windle, Melissa Juilfs, and Jay Juilfs; his grandmother, Linda “Grammy” Back, and Jim Back; his grandparents, Melvin Eckert and Sharon Eckert, his paternal grandparents, Rick and Lana Windle; his brother, Jacob Windle (Chelsea); his sisters, Myranda Steffes (Zach) and Kendra Pugh; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later time to be determined.

While we were celebrating Christmas Zach shared with me how much he loved playing basketball when I coached the "Woodpeckers". He said this was one of his favorite memories. So lucky to have touched his life this way.

Quel est le moment le plus drôle que vous avez vécu ensemble?
One of the many funniest memories I have of Zachary is when he lived with jacob and I, and he was in the basement. Jacob and I were making sandwiches from some chicken that we had made. Jacob had made two for me and was eating his like 3rd one while making food for him as well, and I started eating mine too. It was about halfway gone, and here comes Zachary in his underwear, hair all over the place running. And I mean RUNNING up the steps through the kitchen, saying "move!, move! I gotta go s***!" Of course, we all start cracking up, and when Zachary got to the hallway almost to the bathroom, he screamed "ITS THE CHICKEN!!!" We laughed so hard for so long. I look at jacob, and the both of us have our mouths full, and I said, "Is this chicken bad?" He said."Well, I made one of yours, and one of mine with the questionable chicken, and I guess Zachary ate some earlier too. Haha, Zachary comes out and says, "Don't eat that chicken. Something is wrong with it." The next day, all 3 of us were in the bathroom all day. So, every time someone had to go to the bathroom really bad, we would yell, "IT'S THE CHICKEN!!" We all love you Zachary, you are one of the best people I have ever met and the best uncle my kids could ever have. I'll see you again one day!

Love this picture of him!

I won an African violet at Melissa‘s baby shower when she was pregnant with Zachary. It still sits in my dining room in a flower pot decorated by my grandkids. It’s been healthy and blooming, but it’s been sick a couple of times. Most recently it’s the smallest it’s ever been, but I never toss it away. It’s always reminded me of Zachary and his fight to live and I will be sure Melissa sees it when it blooms again. Prayers and love to all of you.

Quel est votre plus ancien souvenir de Zachary?
When I went to pick up his aunt Michelle for a date back in 1992, he kept hitting me in the head with a wooden spoon saying pway pwank! Pway wit me Pwank (Frank)

Quel est votre plus beau souvenir partagé avec Zachary?
I will never forget Zach singing karaoke at Franks 50th. He sang his heart out to Santeria by Sublime, and sounded pretty dang good doing it.
