Seres queridos

He lived a life full of traveling & exploring, making new friends everywhere he went, and learning new skills and passions like drawing, painting, playing guitar and speaking spanish. He will be missed deeply. If he were here, he would encourage all of us to find beauty in the world, try new things, take a breath and slow down to enjoy our time, and most importantly be kind to the people and world around us.

He has been described by one friend as a caring, generous and noble spirit with a sweet smile and twinkle of happy eyes... Another friend took the black/white photograph shown above with his guitar, and said his beauty, gentleness, humility and so many of his wonderful qualities came through in that shot.

"Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the corner.

All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!"  -Henry Scott-Holland

Te he querido, te quiero y te querré. Desde aquí todo mi AMOR William

I met Bill while studying at the same Spanish language school in San Cris around 10 years ago. He was so easy to connect with and to find common ground with. We stayed in touch loosely over the years and while I was saddened to read the news on Facebook, I'm glad I caught the post or I may have wondered what happened to him. I'm so sorry for your loss and for everyone who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Bill was a beautiful, gentle soul that I always loved to see and run into. And what an artist! It surprised me when I saw his work as he never really talked about it in our casual conversations. He will be missed in this town. Always a smile, always someone who made you feel a bit happier. I wish you all peace in your hearts. Beautiful tribute.

Snapshots of memories have run through my head over the past couple of weeks: When he was younger and I was a kid, I learned to listen to music because of him, putting on different records of bands I didn't know then. He always talked about being healthy, wanting me to drink more water and eat healthier food. At Sarah's wedding, we talked for an hour about different ways to cook green beans.I remember learning how to change oil and windshield wiper fluid from him, working on a 1974 Maverick that was brilliant yellow. Throwing my paper route with him on a rainy day from the old station wagon. Teaching me how to drive. Seeing him bundled in layers and a coat, trying not to freeze when visiting Alaska! He preferred nicer weather, no wonder he loved being in Mexico. So many memories. He will be missed.

All of us who knew him feel the loss of our friend, a truly good man and talented artist. Our talks over the years were always very enjoyable and thoughtful. I’ll miss his smile and gentle nature. He took a rustic, tiny area of our building and transformed it into a little haven of peace and order, full of flowering plants. I especially enjoyed our time together in the roof garden, working and planning. I’ll really miss that.
