William's Enfant
William "Bill" Duesenberg
10 juin 1938 - 26 décembre 2024
10 juin 1938 - 26 décembre 2024
William “Bill” Duesenberg was a self-made man with an entrepreneurial spirit as strong as his will. Born in rural Germany in 1938, he spent his early childhood during the hardships of World War II—times he rarely spoke of, though he shared glimpses of the past with his daughters: stories of hiding a Jewish family in their home, trading eggs for chocolate with American soldiers, and tasting his first chewing gum—mistaken for candy—handed out by GIs.
After losing everything in the war, Bill’s family emigrated to Eastern Canada when he was just 15. With only an eighth-grade education, he immediately began working to support his mother and stepfather. He taught himself English by watching television—something he enjoyed throughout his life—and later moved west to Vancouver, where his curiosity and determination led him to try his hand at many trades.
In his twenties, the family was sponsored to the Seattle area to run a horse stable. Bill started over again—shoveling stalls by day and learning about the people who boarded their horses. He discovered that many of them were in real estate, and a few mentors gave him his first start in the industry. He was hooked. For the rest of his life, he never stopped looking for a good deal, eventually building a successful business in the mini-storage industry through sheer grit, optimism, and perseverance.
While Bill was proud of what he built professionally, his greatest joy came from being a husband to Cindy and a father to Erika and Lindi—and from the many dogs and animals he cherished over the years. Though he was known for his stubborn streak and hard shell, he had an undeniable soft side. Anyone who knew him knew he couldn’t resist sneaking treats to his dogs or slipping a $100 bill to a niece or nephew just because.
Bill’s life was defined by resilience, resourcefulness, and quiet generosity. Whether it was offering encouragement, sharing a story, or lending a hand, he believed in doing what was right and taking care of the people he loved.
He leaves behind a legacy of determination, loyalty, and a heart far bigger than he ever let on.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Uncle Bill was truly one of the best people! His kindness, generosity, humility, and courage were incomparable. Though we were not blood related to him, he was always so loving to my sister and I. We often referred to him and my Aunt Cindy as our third grandparents. We will be dearly missed but I know he is in Heaven, smiling down on the family, legacy, and love that he created. He is a blessing and will continue to change lives for the better, forever. I love you, Uncle Bill! ❤️ Hailey

A Tribute to Bill Duesenberg Dear Bill, You were a rare soul, brought to me through Tom at the gym, where your friendship ignited something truly special. You both saw that Cindy and I would connect, and how right you were! Our shared times over the years brimmed with laughter and cherished memories. Your sharp mind, endless kindness, and unwavering generosity—paired with your love for your beautiful family and that uncanny ability to always know “a guy” for any challenge—made you extraordinary. Your zest for fun lifted every spirit around you. Knowing you was an privilege, and your strength, alongside Cindy’s, held me up when I lost Tom. I’ll miss you profoundly, but your warmth and vibrant spirit will forever live in my heart. Your forever friend, Judy

If you were lucky enough to know Bill, you were indeed fortunate. He was one of a kind….intelligent, generous and caring. His business acumen was beyond reproach. If you wanted his honest opinion to an important question, you would get it, whether it was to your liking or not. Bill was a consummate husband to my dear friend, Cindy and a proud “Papi” to his two amazing daughters, Erika and Lindi. For all who knew him, there is a void that can never by filled.

Mike and I got to know Bill and Cindy because Lindy and our daughter, Amber, were in the same dance company during their high school years. Our family’s friendship has continued. One fond memory: For Bill’s 70th (?) birthday Mike and I took Bill and Cindy to the LeMay Car Museum where the curator allowed Bill to drive a Deusenberg car to lunch! The Hamilton family has fond memories of Bill as a great father and friend. Sincerely, Donna Hamilton

We miss you, Bill! As friends for about 50 years, life will never be the same. The many years of joint dinners, trips, fellowship are treasured memories. ....Picnics at the Lake Sammamish property with S'mores, boating, dock repairs, smokey fires and laughter. Watching our children grow up. ...Parties, dinners at Pike's Peak house. ...Regular (almost weekly) for YEARS at Duke's, Cheesecake Factory, etc full of discussion and laughter. We will always remember our Bill, William, Poppy fondly. He was a great husband to Cindy, loved his two girls limitless and a great friend. A smart, successful and caring man. Here's to you, Dear Friend! Will NEVER forget you!! I can still here your German accent in my head. Always will.

My dad—or “Papi,” as we called him—was an incredible human. He was stubborn, and we knew exactly how to push each other’s buttons, but he also taught me so many of the values I live by today. I could never have started a nonprofit without his belief in me, his quiet generosity, and his words of wisdom. More than anything, I knew that if I failed, he would be there—because he always was. He did things without any fanfare. He didn’t do good deeds for recognition or praise, but simply because it was the right thing to do.
