Wayne's Hijo(a)
Wayne "Hud" Leroy Friar
14 de noviembre de 1939 - 2 de febrero de 2023
14 de noviembre de 1939 - 2 de febrero de 2023
Wayne Leroy Friar, or HUD to his close friends, 83, of Barefoot Bay Florida, passed away on February 2, 2023. He had a heart attack at home in the morning and passed in the ER shortly after.
Wayne grew up in Fort Wayne Indiana with his two brothers and one sister. They got along well and had many adventures together. His mother Ann and father Earl were a big part of his life growing up in urban Fort Wayne.
Wayne was a lifelong soccer player. Goalkeeper was his position. He played on the Fort Wayne Soccer club for many years and always enjoyed watching any game that was on. He was most partial to Bayern Munich and Manchester United. He shared that love of soccer with both of his kids who played into their school years.
Wayne graduated High School in Fort Wayne. After school he worked a few different jobs but ended up working in insurance like his brother Gene. He spent many years in this profession until his retirement in 2000, though he did some consultant work into 2003.
Wayne first married his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Katherine) Gray, in 1964. Wayne and Peggy were married and divorced three times.
In the late 1970s Wayne left behind the cold winters of Fort Wayne for the sunny beaches of Florida. He lived part time in Fort Myers with his friend Dick Wozniak and spent some time on a houseboat in Fort Lauderdale’s Marina Bay. This is where he met and married his second wife, Linda Howells.
Wayne and Linda married in 1984 and moved into a beautiful home in a new development in Deerfield Beach. Their daughter Siddie and son Nicholas arrived on the scene in 1985 and 1988 respectively. Wayne did his best to be a good dad. He shared his love of soccer and mischievous soul. He was a coach for his kids soccer teams for many years. He was a great storyteller and set people at ease. Wayne was very kind and steady. Those who knew Wayne would say there wasn’t a mean bone in his body.
The Friar family lived together in Deerfield Beach until 1999 when Wayne and Linda divorced. Wayne stayed in the area briefly after the divorce. He soon met his fourth wife, Roberta Munroe. Wayne and Roberta married in 2001 and moved to the Sebastian area. They bought their home in the Barefoot Bay Community in 2008 and would remain there until his passing in 2023. Wayne became the stepfather of Roberta’s children Paul and Scott Alexander.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Roberta Friar, his ex-wife Linda Friar and their children Siddie and Nicholas Friar, his step-children Paul and Scott Alexander, his ex-wife Katherine (Peggy) Gray, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Wayne’s absence is felt deeply by those whose lives he touched.

This was taken one of the last times I stayed at his place. I had driven down to buy a didgeridoo from someone in his area and stayed the night with him.

Siddie Friar

First one is from when I went skydiving in Sebastian circa 2007 I think. Dad and Uncle Jack met me and my boyfriend at the time there and watched us jump out of a plane. I’m not sure about the middle one. I think it’s Earls Hideaway with Jack and maybe Adam Friar and his dad? Then Nick, dad and I in Florida I think Nick was moving, probably around 2016.
