Forever in our heart
Sep 30, 2020 - Julie's journal
I sit here holding my mothers hand as she sleeps long and peacefully. I watch her chest gently rise and fall and sometimes as it pauses, I catch my breath and wait for the next small breath in and I know I have my mom in my hands for a little longer yet, but as these moments become more often and longer I know we have begun the final long goodbye. I have cried and poured my love out for this beautiful human being who has been my role model, guide, friend, my bedrock that I built who I am as person upon. Soon Mom and I will come to the end of this journey together, she is coming to the end of the path where I will stay and watch as she passes through the gate into a beautiful garden, into the arm of those that are waiting.
My Mum was. . .
kind - generous - loving - supportive - uncomplaining - loyal - fashion savvy - competative - stubborn - a card shark - and I will miss her all my days
Violet (Vi) Brown passed away peacefully after a long long sleep at her lovely residence, where she happily resided for the last two years at Qualicum Manor, Qualicum Beach, on Sunday Oct 4th. She will always be remembered by her loving daughter Julie Lee and son-in-law Steven Lee who had such a very special bond with Vi.
Violet, my sweet mom, had reached the great age of 90 and had a full and active life. Always ready with a smile and positive outlook on life despite the tragedy of losing both sons early in their lives and her husband Fred Brown in 2004.
Born in Middlesborough the youngest of 3, her older sister Stella and brother Bob spent many years living near to and with their many cousins and despite all the moves sounded like she had a colourful and loved childhood. Moving to London as a young woman, she eventually met my father working at what was then a much smaller Heatherow Airport. They married on a cold winters day December, Friday 13th and soon after set sail for Canada settling in Sarnia in the early 50's. Along came my brother Jeffery and then me not long after, but by the end of the 50's they headed back to the UK, where they settled in NW London for a few years and then onto Norfolk, where they eventually built another new home in Kings Lynn and settled down to full and active life making some wonderful lifelong friends along the way. Norfolk in so many ways was the happiest and saddest of times, baby Adam came along but was with us only for a very short time and then Jeffery was taken away in motorbike accident at the age of 19.
A few more moves around the country till Fred retired then off to Florida for a short stint before finally settling in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, to be nearer their daughter Julie and Steve and where they found golfers heaven. Married more than 52 years, with travel adventures galore, I know mom enjoyed her life to the full and cherished every friendship made along the way.
I take joy in knowing she had a good life despite the tragedies, she so rarely complained or had a bad word to say about anyone her boundless generosity, loving nature and kindness will stay with me always She was and will remain the very best role model I could ever have, we had so much fun together, we travelled together, we have lived together and I cherish every moment we had, every memory from childhood to this time now a treasure.

I miss Vi everyday. She was an amazing friend and human being. The kindest, most thoughtful person I've ever met. She was the epitome of a "people person". She would light up when you came into the room and want to hear all about what was happening in your life and your family's. We played card weekly while enjoying our favoutiet chocolate and I was teaching her to play crib before the lockdown. We played golf twice a week with our Monday group and on Thursday's with a larger group. One of our favourite things to do was go out for lunch to celebrate our birthdays with a glass of wine and some good food. It was always a highlight. It was a joy to get to know Vi's family and to become part of it along with my own. You are missed my beautiful friend.

So many happy memories but perhaps the best was when she came and picked me up after a dentist visit. Nobody asked her to, just the sort of person she is. Took me to her favourite cafe and watched me try and drink a coffee after anaesthetic wore off. We both laughed so much we cried. Not sure what the staff thought of it all but we didn’t care. Felt so supported by her when I needed it the most. I’ll never forget her kindness and humour.

I would like to endorse all the tributes that have been said about VI. I and my husband shared some wonderful and happy times with her and Fred. I would describe her as a true and genuine friend she was always kind full of fun and nothing seemed too much trouble. I particularly remember staying with them when they lived in Southport and we were taken here there and everywhere it was so enjoyable, Also have lovely memories of when we visited Vi in Canada we learnt so much about life in Canada so much more than if we had gone on organised trips and we went to so many places even got to understand the game of ice hockey. Rest in peace my darling lady. We will never forget you and miss you so much

I, too, have fond memories of Vi. Although my husband and I only knew her for a few years she was a joy to behold. I had the pleasure of being able to stay with her for a few nights in her home in Qualicum Beach. We would watch episodes of British shows that we both enjoyed - she would PVR them. As well, we would play cards together - games that I didn’t know how to play - and it was amazing how she would win at every opportunity. But what has been most inspiring to me was how she would listen to me when we would chat, and chat we did. She just listened and offered her suggestions if they were required. She was a beautiful lady, and I will miss her sweet smile and her kindness to others.

In loving memory of our very special friend Vi, you will always have a special place in our heart that we will cherish forever our memories as friends span over fifty years & will reflect on the wonderful times that we shared together. The time when both families moved to The Birches, having family evenings playing table tennis your games room. The coffee mornings always ending having a glass of apricot brandy liquor that Fred brought back from his business trips to Amsterdam, then playing garden badminton afterwards. Also remembering the time I went to visit Vi at home, knocking on her door several times on getting no reply only to find it unlocked & hearing loud music playing Neil Diamond. Later finding that Vi was in King’s Lynn shopping. The wonderful fun we had in the 80’s selling Jeans in Denim Alley on a Saturday . I could go on & on. Dearest Vi, my special friend you are at peace now with your loved ones, you will never be forgotten, love you always, Pam, Ian, Neil and Family xx
