In Loving Memory of Tammy Lucille Christian
Tammy Lucille Christian, born on July 26th, 1971, in Vandalia, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 24th, 2024, at 1:00 am in Detroit, Michigan, just two days shy of her 53rd birthday. A cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, Tammy’s vibrant spirit and boundless love touched the lives of everyone she met.
A celebration of Tammy’s life will be held at First Baptist Church in Ramsey, Illinois, on August 31st, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Friends and family are welcome to send flowers to the church as we gather to honor her memory and the beautiful life she lived.
Tammy is survived by her three beloved sons: Nick Stokes, Craig Stokes, and Tre Stokes; her devoted sister, Theresa Stokes; her loving brothers, Hans Christian, Lonnie Christian and Tim Christian; and her six treasured grandchildren: Hope, Elijah, Nixon, Ozrick, Iris, and Evie. Tammy eagerly anticipated watching over future grandchildren from heaven. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. Tammy’s love for her family was unwavering, and she wished for them to know that no distance could ever diminish her affection.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Jane (Ray) Christian, her father, Denyle "Butch" Christian, her brother, Dale Raymond Evans, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and dear friends. Tammy looked forward to reuniting with them in heaven.
Tammy was renowned as the best cook anyone knew, with a remarkable talent for creating delicious meals out of seemingly nothing. Her kitchen was a sanctuary where she nourished both the body and soul of everyone who entered. Her passion for music and her beautiful singing voice brought joy to many. She lovingly rocked her children to sleep with Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" and could sing any song by Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire with ease.
Baptized in the Catholic Church, Tammy cherished any place of worship where she could sing and feel close to Jesus. Her happy place was near the water; she loved the oceans of California and was fortunate to reside on the Detroit River before her passing, where she enjoyed watching the sun dance across the water each evening.
Known for her honesty, quick wit, and humor, Tammy was the first to stand up for others. She was a protector to all, from family and friends to complete strangers. Her favorite color was red, music was her lifeline and she was obsessed with the smell of vanilla. She loved arts, crafts, gambling, finding joy in these pursuits up until her final hours.
In her unexpected final days, Tammy shared wishes and advice that the world needs to hear: “Remember the good days over the bad, listen to music on the hard days, sing when you feel like crying, and gamble when you feel lucky.” Her final thought for the world is this: "People think that the key to a good relationship is communication, but it isn't. It is compassion."
Tammy loved butterflies, and she hoped that when you see one, you’ll remember her love for them and for you. Never pass up the chance to blow off the seeds of a dandelion when you need to talk to her.
Tammy Lucille Christian will be deeply missed, but her spirit, love, and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

I love you my sister and best friend. I want to say thank you for being in my life and I am forever grateful for you and your boys (my nephews) taking care of me when I had cancer. I don’t believe I would be alive today without your love and help. We had a lot of good times. We loved to cook and laugh and sing. Hard times hit and you never let that stop us from being who we were to each other. I moved many miles away and you sent your son to me because you trusted me and I thank you for that. You soon followed to visit and I cherish that time. I was very fortunate to talk to you the day before passing. And I love you too.only a few will understand this but” I kissed a girl and I liked it” all my love Tammy

I have wrote and erased so many times wanting to say so much about you or to your boys about the things we talked about when it came to them but it ended up being so long that erased it trying to make it shorter but it felt like I was forgetting or leaving things out. We shared so many things with one another. So I am just gonna say my prayers go out to you boys, your mom was an amazing lady with a heart of gold and she always looked for the good in everything. I wish I had more time but I am greatful for the time I had. Fly high girl till we meet again xoxo

Tammy opened her heart and home to me. She never complained and was always trying to do the best she could to see me succeed. I remember one day it was very hot out and I took a walk. She stopped and asked if I needed a ride. Of course I gladly took her offer. Before I climbed in I gave her a hug to make sure she knew how much I appreciated her and she had a warmth that eased my soul. She always spoke highly of her children and couldn't wait for a chance to see her grandkids. I'm very sorry to hear about her passing. My thoughts and prayers are with her family! She will be missed🥀
