Surindar's Fille
Surindar Kumar Parmar
24 février 1937 - 8 mars 2021
24 février 1937 - 8 mars 2021
The time has come, for closing books and long last looks must end, And as I leave I know that I am leaving my best friend.
Aspiring theologian, "Patrick" Surindar Kumar Parmar, age 84, of Belleville Ontario, was unexpectedly called from this earthly realm on Monday, March 8th, 2021, at 6:41 pm.
Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Surindar fought his final mortal battle with strength and grace. His wife Nancy, and his four children, who he adored and loved more than anything else in the world, were by his side.
Surindar, born February 24, 1937, in Firozpur, Punjab, India, son of the late Nirmal Singh Parmar and Shakuntala Singh, came to Toronto Ontario Canada in 1960 as an engineering student to continue his studies at the University of Toronto.
From 1965 to 1971, Surindar made Charlottetown, Kensington and Summerside his home, and the birthplace of his first three children with his first wife, Gail. He taught math and was a huge positive influence for so many high school students. Surindar’s children remember the story of how in 1967, when the lights came on in the movie theatre, students from the local high school stood up and paid homage to their Dad by singing the main theme song to the movie they just finished watching: To Sir with Love. Surindar gave his students the confidence they needed not only to overcome mathematical equations and expressions but to stand with purpose, conviction and choice. He knew all too well the challenges that life presented and, in a time, where racism and prejudice prevailed in so many parts of the world, Surindar’s calm demeanour and desire to see his students succeed earned him the respect and affections of not only his students and colleagues but Prince Edward Island herself.
One of Surindar’s proudest accomplishments was being a father. He had always wanted a big family and considered himself blessed to have four children from his first marriage, two step-children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His children, Surina, Christopher, Arthur and Tiffany called their Dad courageous and wise, and even as adults, still see him that way. He was constant and always there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them to be resilient, tenacious, strong and proud. He taught them to aim for excellence personally, professionally and spiritually. But most of all, he taught them how to love unconditionally and open their hearts and minds to everyone. The one thing that he had hoped his children would accomplish during their lifetime, was the ability to embrace forgiveness. And such, Surindar’s teachings echo in the hearts and minds of his children who through his death have acquired his strength and courage to forgive those they love.
Although Surindar had many fears, he wasn’t fearful. He was curious and unafraid of change. He was intellectually insatiable and yet a child at heart. He loved music and singing and when he had the opportunity, he would be the first on the dance floor. His hugs were the most heartfelt and his smile would lighten anyone’s mood. He loved chess and euchre but didn’t like to lose, which was hardly ever. He loved intellectual and spiritual discussions and never backed down from a good old-fashioned debate. He loved to eat like a king in the morning, a prince at lunch and a pauper at night. His home was his palace and he took fashion cues from no one. Surindar loved wearing white and walked proudly when everyone told him he looked twenty years younger than he did. He loved celebrations and absolutely spoiled everyone with musical cards.
For over 40 years, Surindar dedicated his life to his purpose, his passion. Many years of research were spent on every known religion, philosophy, teaching and spirituality to bring man back to its true source. He strived to simplify what many over time had made complex. Surindar shared his findings with anyone willing to learn. To grasp and share in his beautiful energy was contagious. His children would often say "just write the book, Dad", but his desire to harness all the wisdom was never-ending. Surindar's work will continue and his teaching will one day shift the world.
Although this world wasn't as kind to Surindar as it could have been, he always opened his heart to those in need. Described by all as a caring, kind, supportive, generous, loving and selfless man, Surindar touched the lives, hearts and spirits of many.
Surindar is survived by his wife, Nancy; his four children from his first marriage: Surina, Christopher, Arthur and Tiffany; his two step-children: Mark and Michelle; His seven grandchildren: Michael, Gavin, Emma, Aidan and Noah, Indigo and Owen. The essence of Surindar lives on through all lineages forever.
Aside from being survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson, Surindar also leaves behind his step-mom, four sisters, brother, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins around the world.
Surindar's family is ever-so-grateful for the care and support of the Kingston General Hospital ICU team.
Surindar requested a private family service. His children will honour their father in Hindu tradition by performing the mourning period for 13 days.
Surindar’s children have created this online memorial to celebrate their father's loving and beautiful life, and invite relatives and friends of Surindar to share their fondest memories, photos and stories of a man that touched us all.

Ah, so many memories, so many good old times. He was a worthy neighbour and a worthy friend. He was a wonderful person, and I will miss him.

Today we said our goodbyes in the physical form to a kind, strong, courageous and wise man, Surindar Parmar. He will always live in our hearts. He taught us so many lessons in life, he shared his wisdom, his courage, his intellectuality and he opened our hearts and minds to spirituality. He taught his family how to love unconditionally, to forgive and to be there with an open heart and mind. He was a loving Husband, Father, Father- in - law and Grandfather. He was truly inspiring and wise. We will always love you and will meet again spiritually. Birth and death are of the physical world. They are put of the duality that surrounds us — light and dark, heat and cold. But energy can never be created or destroyed; it transforms from one form to another. Energy is in essence, non-dual. Consciousness is not of the human body. The essence of Surindar lives on.
