7 de agosto de 1942 - 6 de octubre de 2023
Stephan (Steve) Bosworth Thomas, 81, passed away on October 6, 2023 with family by his side. He was a long-time resident of El Segundo, CA.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and San Antonio, TX, and served in the Air Force from 1960-1965. Flight continued to be an interest throughout his life.
He loved all things cars, working in the automotive industry the majority of his adult life. He worked closely for and was friends with race car driver, Scooter Patrick. His children remember being taken to Ascot Park in Gardena, CA for miniature car races, demolition derbies and stock car races as kids. He would catch the Indianapolis 500 on television every year.
Self-knowledge and self-growth were one of Steve’s passions. Starting with Dale Carnegie and transcendental meditation by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and continuing through the Church of Religious Science and other teachings, he was inspired to further his knowledge into the personal, psychological and spiritual aspects of life. He was a thorough student who loved to learn, with many of his books filled with highlighting and notes.
Steve drove transportation for a few years for some major studios and fondly recalled picking up Anthony “Tony” Hopkins (though because he wasn’t up on current actors, he thought he was picking up Tony Perkins) at the airport and hearing all about his work in “Nixon” at the time on the drive to his home. He remained a fan of Hopkins from then on.
He loved the American southwest and Native American culture. He collected Native American art and rugs, and had a deep connection with cowboy lore.
Steve is survived by his brother Robert, his children, Stephanie and Bradley, daughter in law Gretchen, his grandchildren, Jarred, Heather, Seth and Jessica, his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Gabriel, Camille, Jacob, Isla, Robert John (RJ), Wade, Lillian , Rehn, Cia and his nieces and nephews and further family and friends.
Burial will be at sea through the Neptune Society. That date is to be determined

Grandpa Steve was a wonderful Grandpa. He was very caring and real. I remember him and my Stepdad, Brad, would open up a car hood and talk for half an hour or so about what they saw-They would diagnose the history of the vehicle and what changes were made from upgrades to accidents. He did have different girlfriends and when I was young I got confused on who my grandma was, but it didn’t bother me as much as it bothered Brad and my mom! Again he was real, what you saw is what he was, genuinely himself. Love you Grandpa Steve!

I last saw Steve two years ago in New York. At his sister Pam’s wedding. He was so gracious and caring. I had a bad knee and had trouble walking. He watched over me and helped me up and down the steps. So glad we had the time together. Steve was my husband Herb’s brother. I met Steve for the first time after Herb was discharged from the Air Force. We went to visit him and ended up living there for 5 years! We enjoyed being there with him and his family. I even gave birth to my second child there. After Herb’s passing Steve always kept in touch. Never forgot my Birthday with a card. I will miss him dearly. I ‘m sure he is with Herb and having some long talks about cars. RIP Love you Shirl ❤️
