Recuerdos

Great is our God!

Stanley Groff, 83, passed away on March 8, 2025, after a long battle with liver disease, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Southern California, Stan was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He is survived by his cherished wife, Janet; his children, Darryn, Rochelle and Kimberley, and seven grandchildren. His professional career was dedicated to Electrical design in the engineering and construction industry, where he expertly performed his work and led others with genuine care and a good dose of humor. His compassion and leadership left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Beyond his career, Stan found great joy in many hobbies: wood carving, golfing, boating, fishing, serving as an elder and youth group leader at church, dabbling with the guitar, flying small planes, motorcycles, race cars that he owned and drag raced even with cataracts, go-karts, all around handyman with at least 3 sets of every tool imaginable, and he loved washing cars. He truly worked to live rather than lived to work. Above all, Stan's greatest happiness came from praying with friends/family or anyone he came across that seemed to need prayer, volunteering in the church sound booth, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren who were always on his heart and mind. Our hope is a celebration of Stan's life will be captured here with documented memories and/or photos of those whose lives he touched.

¿Cómo conociste a Stanley?

Hello, I went to church with Stan and Jan for a good long time. I served on the media team with Stan, and he never failed to smile and greet me with a warm hello whenever we saw each other at church. Stan was a kind man with a servant’s heart, and I will miss him.

¿Cómo impactó Stanley tu vida?

I remember my 2nd year of college my first real love died in a motorcycle accident in Mississippi where he was recently stationed. I really struggled with closure so my dad Stan drove me from Houston to Keesler Air Force base to talk for hours at his gravesite, then we visited the beach, bought a momento and drove back to Houston. That trip with just my dad and I meant so much to me.

Stan was the kindest, gentlest man - always making people feel welcomed and loved. He was so generous with his beautiful wood carvings that always brought a smile to my face and those he gave them to. He and Jan were a beautiful team. We will all miss you Stan!

¿Cómo impactó Stanley tu vida?

He was honest and he owned up to his mistakes and didn’t let them define him. He loved making people laugh and his generosity and eagerness to lend a helping hand or offer up a prayer really taught me how people ought to be. Unconditional love and support, and when you asked for forgiveness he gave it easily.

¿Cuál era la frase característica de Stanley's?

He’d sing “oh lord it’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way”.
