After 3 days of fighting really hard, our little Silas went to be with Jesus where he finally gets to rest. Being born at 34 weeks, he suffered a double pneumothorax which led to pulmonary hypertension. From the beginning Silas was a fighter and actually overcame these challenges and enjoyed a really stable 24 hours, but his little body was just not able to fight so hard for so long. Last night, his heart gave out. We got to hold him in our arms for the first and the last time, and he slipped away from us peacefully as we told him something we always tell our oldest son Noah as he goes to sleep: "remember that Mama loves you, Papa's proud of you, and Jesus is with you." Silas short life was amazing, as he amassed a movement of prayer we never knew possible. We got messages from dear friends (and even some we don't know) in Mauritius, America, India, Africa, and Asia all telling us that they were praying. He did all this just by being very brave. Silas now shares the middle name, Justice with his twin brother Josiah. The shared a womb for the last year and when we went for sonograms we loved seeing the two of them with their forehe ads pressed against one another. They spent 3 days in the NICU together before they were tragically separated. We know that in some way these boys had some sort of special relationship that most of us who are not twins can never understand. We found it fitting that as he grows up, Josiah should carry a little part of his brother with him, to remind him that he's never alone. So please join us in welcoming little Josiah Justice Amberg.

Little Silas, The minute we heard you were conceived, not only your immediate family, but a group of people that are called your extended family cheered and celebrated the miracle and joy of your life. From that moment on you had so many people praying for you and your brother that we knew your life was special. Wanted, special, and strong are the words that come to my mind as I think of you. The cheering and joy that came for you at your birth could be heard around the world. And then as you needed others to gather to pray for you, the same intensity was birthed in so many people. Though I did not get to see you in person, the photos showed a handsome, strong boy, wrapped in the arms of God and already being a testimony of God's grace and intentional mercy and care to everyone around you. I cannot wait to see you in heaven where you are already there waiting for all of us to come. Ecclesiastes 3:11 "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end".

Dear Silas, you're mega-special for plenty of reasons besides this. But for me, the personal-to-me part of your "special-ness" is that you have the same name as my youngest son! Another personal part is that I'm crazy about your dad, mom, and Noah (I've not yet had the privilege of meeting your twin, but awesomeness runs in your family, so no doubt I'll be crazy about Josiah, too). They love you so, so much, and I'm so proud of and thankful for the way they advocated for you during your brief time on this side of eternity. They walk in God's favor and pleasure. So, Si guy, there you are on that longed-for side of eternity - infinity times infinity times better than this tethered-to-earth side. And while I'm like your parents and brothers in that I SO wish you'd not preceded us so quickly into seeing Jesus face to face, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm just a LITTLE bit envious of that level of intimacy and glory you're experiencing with HIM (1 Cor.13:12, Rev.22:3-5). See you there in the throne room, at the feet of Jesus one day, bud. I love you.

Dear Silas, We were blessed to have known you and been part of your life in some way however short. You taught us a lot and the experience reminded us of the everlasting love of God for us all. We were reminded that even when things we will and want to happen don't come through, what's bigger is the love and faithfulness of the Father and importantly that death does not divide us because we will be reunited forever in God's presence. So, we hope to meet you in-person someday. We have been blessed by the strength and faithfulness of your mama and papa and the joy that your brothers bring. So, we thank you for making your mark in however short a time and coming through this beautiful family that is connected to and that has impacted the lives of so many others. We love you. Darling Baby Silas, along with your brave mama and papa, your best big brother Noah, and your sweet twin brother Josiah--The truth is, we're sad you couldn't stay with us. We wanted you to so much. We had so many plans for how we'd love you as you grew. At the same time, in your short life, you taught us eternal truths that we are holding to even as we miss you. One, right now the grace of God is on display as your family is surrounded by a world wide fellowship of believers. I've described it to friends like this--it's as if we were dropped into a dark sea, but we couldn't sink even if we wanted to because we are covered with floaties put there by the powerful, effective, loving prayers of other people who love Jesus. The grace offered us via the family of God is more real than the ground we walk on. And two, prayer is trusting. Our Heavenly Father has reminded me of this over and over in the middle of all the circumstances leading up to and surrounding your birth. Even as you grew weaker and I knew you might be leaving us, I felt Him say it--Trust Me. Trust me. Your mama is right--Faithful is the Son. I love you all. Anna

Long before you were born Silas, you were carried in our hearts. Our prayers carried you and your brother Josiah as your Mama carried you both in her tummy and then brought you into this world. Our prayers carried you as your Mama and Papa held you in their arms and handed you over to the arms of Jesus. Your short beautiful life was carried in the arms of saints all over the world. What a comfort to know you are full of life now. We look forward to the day when we will be reunited with you in heaven and also be fully alive with you. Until then, you will always be carried in that special place in our hearts and we will proudly watch your parents and brothers carry on your legacy.
