Forever in Our Hearts
On Monday evening, February 15, 2021, Sarah peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by family at the age of 93.
Sarah was born to James and Paulene (Bain) Kerr. She grew up in Caledonia, Ontario Canada, lived her teenage years in North Holston, Virginia and served two summer internships at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Muskingum University then served as a Laboratory Technician prior to marrying Dale Brevoort and living in Columbus, Ohio. They raised one daughter, Susan, and two sons, William (Bill) and Richard (Dick). After enjoying many family holiday vacations, Sarah resumed her career as a travel agent where she cherished two tours of Africa and China. Sarah ultimately moved to Southern California and lived in the Laguna Woods Village active lifestyle retirement community.
Sarah was known as a caring, ambitious, and loving leader. Her warm and soothing discussions left a lasting impression on all. She had a passion for family and civic involvement. Her most precious family moments were when her three children were born as she loved them and watched them grow up. She considered her proudest career accomplishment as, “wife, motherhood and Chief Director of 611 Highland Drive.” Her proudest civic accomplishment was leading her community to change the course of the Ohio State Route 315 Olentangy Freeway away from the neighborhood to unused cemetery land. She remained active in civic causes throughout her life ultimately achieving the position of Flotilla Commander in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Southern California at the age of 82.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her mother Paulene, her father James, and her brother Jim. She was also preceded in death by her companion of 17 years Jim Klausman and her close college friend Marge Rivingston. She is survived by her children and spouses Susan, Bill and Darlene, Dick and Kathy, as well as her grandsons Chase and his wife Courtney, and Tim. She is also survived by her special friend and caregiver Rose Nelson.
Given the importance to protect everyone from COVID, there will not be a Celebration of Life physical service and instead we are celebrating Sarah’s life through this website. Sarah will eventually be interned beside her husband Dale at Union Cemetery in Columbus, Ohio when the time is appropriate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to The Foundation of Laguna Woods Village.

I am filled with love and memories and gratitude for Sally Brevoort. Our special Aunt Sal who gave us a true "home" here in Columbus when we arrived in 1980. Sunday dinners at her house on Highland Drive...swims in the backyard pool & cookouts on the stone grill at the bottom of the hill. She came to NJ to attend our wedding. She graciously invited John and I to live in her basement for 3 months, with all our possessions heaped in a room, while we searched for our first house. She was there to help us christen that house. She was the first person to meet our son Luke when he was born (posing as "the grandmother" since the real grandmothers were both living 500 miles away). We had such fun times on Lake Cumberland houseboats, at the Jersey shore, in California and Minnesota, and at our Seneca Lake getaway. She wrapped our daughter in loving hugs and always made us feel as if we held a special place in her heart. She certainly held that place in OUR hearts. We celebrate your life, Aunt Sal, and are so thankful for your gentle, fun-loving presence in our family's lives. Pinkies up!❤️
