Like Bob, I graduated from Brainerd High School. I attended SCSU from 1973-77 and played baseball for the Huskies so I frequently saw Bob around Halenbeck Hall and Selke Field. Once he found out I was a Brainerd guy, we became immediate buddies and often chatted about our mutual Brainerd acquaintances. After graduating from SCSU, I occasionally saw Bob officiating various sporting events that I covered as sports editor of the Brainerd Dispatch. What a great person. I have missed seeing him. My condolences to his family

Met Bob when he was coaching track. He always said, how can I raise more money. In those days track and field was grossly under funded. But he managed and made the best of it. Good person and will be missed by student athletics he coached and taught. Don Watkins

Grandpa Bob was an exceptionally kind, caring, and gentle man. He brought light and laughter to our family and I feel exceptionally lucky to have had him in my life. He was a role model to anybody who knew him and was the best partner to my grandmother. I will always remember him with nothing but love and warmth. He was the best coach and step-grandpa I could have asked for.

This has been a trying period for many of us. The passing of Wax adds an even sadder note to 2020. My condolences to Paul, Mary, and Mike on the loss of their wonderful father. Though a Coach/Professor when we first met. He became much much more. I loved him like a father. I trusted him and his guidance was immeasurable. He introduced me to his then young family. They made me feel so included. He was truly a great teacher of men. The bond was set. The philosopher had me hooked. He showed us all how to live a championship life. After having a very successful freshman year in track. He asked if I wanted to go to nationals. I told him my family back home was in turmoil and I needed to get back. He look at me and said, nothing is more important than family. We'll go next year. Thank you all for sharing him with us for so many years. He was a beautiful soul. R.I.P. Coach Wax.

Bob was a very good man, and he will be missed by many. He was a wonderful stepfather, very easygoing and always kind. He knew so many people from so many stages of his life. I was always amazed at how many former athletes he was still in touch with, and it was a testament to his mentorship to so many.

We are very sorry to have lost our wonderful stepfather. The role is not an easy one to fill, but Bob was—from the minute that he joined our family—an incredibly generous, loving, patient, accepting, and easy-going presence. He opened his heart and home to us, our husbands, our children, our pets, and our extended families. He once told us that he knew that spending time with family was important and therefore all of our family members were welcome in his house. Because of his kindness, self-assurance, warmth, and understanding, our blended family was always filled with love and laughter on holidays and summer vacations. We could not have asked for better stepfather. We will miss him greatly and we will remember him with love and gratitude for all the happiness that he brought to our lives.
